In Dong Nai, the summer of 2026 is kicking off with a flurry of new books and large-scale cultural reading activities, promising a rewarding and enriching summer for students in the city.
Good books for readers.
With the desire to bring the youth of Dong Nai city a summer full of both joy and knowledge, Dong Nai Library has just introduced its 2026 Summer Book Catalogue with 55 diverse books in many fields. From books about President Ho Chi Minh such as: "Uncle Ho - A Simple Example," "A Portrait of Uncle Ho," to historical works such as: "The Reed Flag Builds the Nation," "The Dien Bien Phu Soldier Tells His Story," "Nguyen Huu Canh - The Founder of Saigon"... Each book contributes to educating the younger generation about patriotic traditions and national pride.
In addition, the Dong Nai Library's Summer Book Catalogue allows students to explore the beauty of Vietnamese culture through works about traditional craft villages such as: Van Chang Blacksmith Village - The Flame of Blacksmithing Lives On, Lanh My A Silk - The Legend of Silk, Phu Quoc Fish Sauce - The Delicious Taste of the Pearl Island… For students passionate about technology, titles about Robotics, AI and Utility Tools, Flying to the Moon, The Invisible World of Germs… will lead them into the wondrous world of knowledge, creativity, and the future.
According to Nguyen Thi Sen, Deputy Head of the Information Processing and Informatics Department of the Dong Nai Library: Building the Summer Book Catalog is an annual activity carried out by the library with the hope of bringing new and interesting books to students during the summer. The catalog has been introduced on digital platforms and QR codes have been developed, making it convenient for readers to search remotely. Through this, it helps children have more enjoyable reading moments, discover new things, nurture their souls, and give wings to their dreams.
Alongside library activities, this year's summer book market is also vibrant with many attractive promotional programs from book publishers. Tre Publishing House, Kim Dong Publishing House, and others are introducing many new titles, making it easier for readers to access and choose books for the summer. Notably, the Nha Nam Summer Book Fair 2026 features a series of new works such as "Picking Up a Pen in a Lonely Night," "The Orbit," "Midnight Laundry," "The Dog from Flanders," etc., along with many discount programs from 30-50%, fixed-price books, and "flash sale" golden hours, attracting many readers.
At Dong Nai Publishing House, many books on politics, culture, history, economics, society, and children's literature are being displayed and introduced within the premises. Among them, book sets for young people such as "Famous Figures of Dong Nai" and "Legends of Dong Nai" are popular choices for readers participating in the Reading Culture Ambassador Contest and other summer 2026 drawing and storytelling competitions based on books.
Diverse reading promotion activities
Beyond simply introducing new books, this summer also sees a strong development of activities related to reading culture. Currently, the 2026 Reading Culture Ambassador Contest is being launched for students from grades 1 to 12 in Dong Nai city. The contest themes include: Books and the dream of reaching further, Reading culture in the digital age and artificial intelligence, and Preserving national cultural identity. The organizers will accept entries until June 15th and will select the three best entries to recommend to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for commendation.
On July 16th and 17th, the Dong Nai Library will organize the 2026 Dong Nai City Drawing and Storytelling Contest. With the theme: "Proud of Vietnam - Continuing the Tradition, Aspiring to Advance," the contest is open to primary and secondary school students in the city. Students will draw pictures of famous landmarks, historical sites, festivals, and the heroic figures and prominent people of Dong Nai, past and present. The storytelling section will cover Vietnamese history, President Ho Chi Minh, national heroes, love for homeland and country, borders, islands, and family.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh, a Literature teacher at Le Quy Don High School - Tan Mai, Tam Hiep Ward, shared: “The storytelling and drawing contest based on summer books and the Reading Culture Ambassador Contest were widely launched by the school to students right from the beginning of summer. This is not only a beneficial playground to help students develop their creativity and literary appreciation skills, but also contributes to spreading the love of reading and reading culture in the community, especially in the context of today's rapidly developing digital technology.”
In communes and wards throughout Dong Nai city, various painting and storytelling competitions based on summer books are being simultaneously organized to find the best entries for the city-level competition. In addition, local libraries are also promoting the circulation of books to grassroots levels, providing mobile services at cultural centers, schools, and residential areas; creating conditions for students in remote areas and areas with a high concentration of workers to access books more easily during the summer.
