This is the first time a beauty pageant has been organized with the aim of closely linking the honoring of the Ao Dai heritage with the mission of connecting Vietnamese women worldwide . Organized by SMT Investment and Development Joint Stock Company, the competition is envisioned as a meaningful cultural and artistic event, contributing to the dissemination of traditional national values in the context of international integration.
According to the organizers, the competition is not simply about finding outstanding beauties, but also a platform to honor the beauty of Vietnamese women in traditional ao dai. Through this, it contributes to affirming the enduring value of national attire in contemporary life, while simultaneously fostering national pride among generations of Vietnamese people.
Beyond beauty, the competition focuses on finding women who possess intelligence, strength of character, and dedication to become inspiring ambassadors, contributing to promoting Vietnamese culture to the world. This is also an opportunity to connect personal beauty with community responsibility and love for national heritage.
Speaking at the press conference, designer Cao Thu Vân, Head of the Organizing Committee of the competition, affirmed that her deep love for the ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress) is the driving force behind her and her colleagues' creation of this project with special cultural significance.
“For me, the ao dai has never been simply a piece of clothing, but a heritage imbued with the spirit of time. In each flowing fold of the dress lies the dignified, gentle yet resilient beauty of Vietnamese women,” shared Ms. Cao Thu Van.
One of the unique aspects of the competition is the expanded age range for contestants, from 20 to 45 years old, creating an opportunity to celebrate the beauty of women at different stages of life. According to Ms. Cao Thu Van, each age group possesses its own unique beauty and can become ambassadors conveying the story of national culture through the ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress).
Beyond being just a beauty pageant, the Organizing Committee hopes that Miss Vietnamese Ao Dai Heritage Global 2026 will contribute to forming a network connecting female entrepreneurs, young intellectuals, designers, artisans, and businesses operating in the fashion and beauty industries. Through this, they aim to gradually build a sustainable development ecosystem for the Vietnamese Ao Dai heritage.
The competition also aims for many long-term values such as forming a new generation of "Heritage Women" with modern thinking and the ability to lead the community; building a collection of high-quality images, films, and media products about the ao dai associated with national landmarks to serve promotional and diplomatic purposes.
According to the plan, after the official announcement on May 30th, the preliminary round will take place on June 10th. Contestants will showcase their talents through a pre-prepared 3-minute music video. The Top 30 finalists will be announced on June 11th.
The final night is scheduled to take place at 8 PM on June 20th at Vietnam Television Station. Contestants will compete in the following segments: showcasing traditional Vietnamese ao dai dresses, modern ao dai designs, and traditional evening gowns; and a Q&A session revolving around themes of ao dai, the values of modern women, and social responsibility.
