OCOP contributes to the formation of rural value chains.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment (DARD) of Lang Son province recently held a conference to announce the results of the evaluation and ranking of OCOP products in Lang Son province for 2025 (phase 2). According to the Director of the DARD, Nguyen Huu Chien, the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program is one of the important solutions to develop the rural economy by leveraging local resources, increasing product value, and linking it with the sustainable development of new rural areas.

In Lang Son , the Provincial People's Committee has issued the OCOP Project for the period 2019-2020, with a vision to 2030; and simultaneously implemented the Plan for the implementation of the OCOP Program for the period 2021-2026.

Through a review of the 2021-2025 period, the OCOP Program has achieved many positive results, contributing to promoting sustainable rural economic development and gradually changing perceptions in production organization and the application of science and technology.

2025 marks the first year of implementing the two-tiered local government model. The Department of Agriculture and Environment has coordinated with other departments, agencies, and the People's Committees of communes and wards to implement the OCOP Program according to its annual schedule. Propaganda and guidance have been strengthened, encouraging economic entities to participate and ensuring that OCOP products reflect the community's values and the advantages of each locality.

In 2025, the entire province evaluated, classified, and certified 57 OCOP products, including 52 products achieving 3 stars and 5 products achieving 4 stars. In the second phase of 2025 alone, 23 products were certified, bringing the total number of valid OCOP products in the province to 185, comprising 10 4-star products and 175 3-star products.

Improve quality, focus on depth.

Regarding the quality assessment of OCOP products, the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lang Son stated that the products participating in the program have basically made significant progress in terms of quality, design, and packaging. Many products have applied information technology in traceability, promotion, and product introduction, thereby enhancing competitiveness and meeting the requirements for inclusion in modern distribution systems and retail channels.

However, despite the achievements, the implementation of the OCOP Program still faces difficulties and limitations. Propaganda efforts in some areas are uneven; the understanding of some local officials and producers regarding the goals and significance of the OCOP Program is still incomplete, leading to confusion in implementation and planning.

Many OCOP products are primarily in the agricultural sector, with long production cycles and high risks, while infrastructure and investment capital remain limited. The production and management skills of some cooperatives and production facilities are still low, and they are not yet familiar with value chain-based commodity production, affecting the development of business plans and the completion of dossiers for evaluation and ranking.

To ensure the continued effectiveness of the OCOP program, Mr. Chien suggested that communes and wards seriously implement the directives of the Provincial People's Committee on the development of OCOP products and rural tourism in the 2026-2030 period. The selection and support for the development of OCOP products should be linked to scale, production volume, and the ability to meet market demand, avoiding a scattered approach.

Furthermore, localities need to focus on improving and upgrading certified products, from quality standards and trademark protection to packaging improvements, traceability, and product storytelling. Simultaneously, they should encourage the development of new products through deep processing, product diversification, and gradual standardization to high standards, aiming for export, thereby enhancing the value and competitiveness of Lang Son's OCOP products.
