Returning from Ho Chi Minh City to her hometown of Da Lat, choosing traditional purple-stemmed carrots in the agricultural area of Xuan Tho commune to convert the inorganic production process to organic, wife Pham Thi Thu Thuy (born in 1986), an environmental engineer, and husband Vu Duc Hung (born in 1984), an electrical engineer, expanded the scale of the organic farm, which was selected by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong as a model to support the granting of Organic Certification according to TCVN 11041-2:2017 standards in 2024.

Thuy Hung Farm owner Pham Thi Thu Thuy recounted that since 2019, after leaving a relatively well-paid job at a company in Ho Chi Minh City, Thuy and Hung met a farmer in Xuan Tho commune, Da Lat city to promote the production of purple-stemmed carrots outdoors using organic methods. This farmer was worried that "after decades of caring for carrots with "salty food", now having to switch to "vegetarian food", he was afraid that he would encounter many difficulties in terms of fertilization, yield and income value...". Thuy convinced her, "My husband and I are committed to providing quality seeds, instructing on new techniques for organic farming, and purchasing all harvested products at a higher price than the market price...". After many days of consideration and hesitation, this farmer decided to join hands with Thuy and Hung to initially produce 2,000 m2 of purple-stemmed carrots using organic methods in the above-mentioned Xuan Tho commune.
As a result of more than 90 days of continuous practice of organic farming processes from sowing seeds to nurturing, pest control, harvesting, the cooperative farmer couple Thuy - Hung was quite surprised when pulling each carrot plant out of the ground, weighing 0.3 - 0.5 kg/root. Multiplying the total output to more than 2 tons/1,000 m2. Bringing to the market, the price increased by 30 - 40% compared to the price of carrots produced by inorganic methods. In the next crop, this farmer officially accompanied the couple Thuy - Hung to expand the organic carrot area to 6,000 m2 with complete technical production to date. The average yield of harvested carrots on an area of 1,000 m2 reached 2 - 2.5 tons in the dry season; 1 - 1.2 tons in the rainy season. Especially from organic carrots, Thuy - Hung couple arranged 500 m2 of production area to collect seeds for the next season. After 6 months of caring for the seeds, they are exposed to natural sunlight for about a week before planting the new crop outdoors, planting and harvesting in succession, each crop is planted on an area of about 700 m2 . According to the daily output contract, Thuy - Hung Farm guarantees to purchase 100 - 200 kg of organic carrots on the total associated production area here.
From the organic purple carrot plant that has been produced effectively since 2019, Thuy and Hung have expanded the scale of organic production on the farm to nearly 10 hectares with nearly 40 different product lines of vegetables, tubers, fruits, fruit trees, and coffee in the agricultural areas of Trai Mat, Xuan Tho, Mang Lin, Da Lat City; Da Sa commune, Da Chais commune, Lac Duong district. Of which, 6.6 hectares are meeting the final parameters to be granted an Organic Production Certificate according to the above TCVN 11041-2:2017 standard. On the total area of rotational vegetables, tubers, and fruits here, in the first week of August 2024, Thuy Hung Organic Farm harvested and distributed to 100 points of sale in the domestic market, including key rotational products such as cucumbers, broccoli, beets, cabbage, radishes, bell peppers, tomatoes, etc., more than 500 kg per day. In addition, Thuy Hung Farm has opened an organic vegetable store at 233 Nguyen Cong Tru, Da Lat, selling 30 - 40 kg of various vegetables every day. Notably, with a total of 10 hectares of organic farming, Thuy - Hung Farm has allocated 5 hectares to grow coffee, Laba banana, jackfruit, dragon fruit, avocado, etc., achieving productivity and annual market prices 30 - 40% higher than conventional farming methods.
“Our farm’s organic production process has so far stabilized the amount of disease-free cow and goat manure from Ninh Thuan , purchased and composted with biological yeast for 2-3 months for use on all types of crops, while completely replacing pesticides to prevent pests with suitable biological products, saving 30-40% of investment capital through each crop. Thereby, the highest benefit of our organic farm is to protect the health of producers and protect the clean ecological environment…”, Farm owner Pham Thi Thu Thuy shared.
