Previously, on the afternoon of March 27, 2025, Lam Dong II Hospital received patient KNMK (11 years old, residing in Loc Thanh commune, Bao Lam district) who suffered trauma due to a fall. The patient was admitted to the hospital with a severely deformed right elbow and wrist. There was a 6 cm long wound on the front of the right elbow, exposing the humerus. The right forearm was cold and purple, and the radial pulse could not be detected.

Through consultation, the medical team and doctors of the Department of Surgery - Orthopedics determined that patient K. had a ruptured right brachial artery at the elbow, a slipped elbow joint, and a fracture of the lower end of the radius of the right forearm.

The medical team determined that this injury was very dangerous, with the risk of leading to hand necrosis and even amputation if not treated promptly.

Realizing the seriousness of the case, the surgical team led by Orthopedic Specialist Doctor Phi Dang Canh performed the main surgery and performed a complex technique to save the patient's arm.

Doctors performed surgery to remove a 5cm long segment of the great saphenous vein from the patient's left leg to graft onto the severed and crushed brachial artery that could not be reconnected at the elbow.

After nearly 3 hours of surgery, the team successfully grafted the right brachial artery to the patient. At the same time, they realigned the dislocated elbow joint, sutured the torn joint capsule and tendons; realigned the lower end of the radius, and placed a plaster cast to immobilize the right arm, hand, and damaged tendons.

Patient K. is being cared for and treated at Lam Dong II Hospital.

After surgery, the patient was conscious, vital signs were stable, blood circulation was good, and the radial pulse was gradually stabilizing. Currently, the patient is being treated and monitored in a state where the fingers of the right arm can move, with no signs of compression after revascularization.

The success of the surgery not only helped preserve the arm of the KNMK patient, but also opened up hope for a good recovery in the future. This is one of the complex surgeries requiring high expertise that Lam Dong II Hospital has successfully performed, contributing to bringing happiness to the K patient and his family; at the same time, opening up opportunities for patients with similar injuries.
