Within the framework of the Ceremony to receive the UNESCO Global Geopark Title, a number of activities will take place: Annual Conference of the Expert Subcommittee on Vietnam Global Geopark in 2025; Discussion on the construction and development of Lang Son UNESCO Global Geopark, witnessing the signing of cooperation agreements with a number of Geopark partners.
Lang Son UNESCO Global Geopark
With its special international values in geology, culture and landscape, Lang Son Geopark was recognized as a Global Geopark by the Geopark Council in September 2024 and officially recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark in April 2025, becoming the fourth Global Geopark in Vietnam, after Dong Van Stone Plateau, Cao Bang Non Nuoc and Dak Nong Geopark.
This title marks an important turning point, bringing Lang Son province officially into the UNESCO Global Geopark Network, which includes 229 destinations in 50 countries around the world. This is an honor and pride for the high political determination and continuous efforts of the Party Committees, authorities and ethnic people of Lang Son province in the journey to reach an international title.
Covering a vast area of 4,842.58 km2 and with a population of approximately 627,500 people (equivalent to approximately 58% of the area and 78% of the province's population), Lang Son UNESCO Global Geopark is a gem in the mountainous region of Northern Vietnam. It is a living testament, encapsulated in its diverse landscapes, to the journey through 500 million years of life's evolution.
From ancient seas and volcanic lands to ironwood forests, each facet of the Geopark tells a unique story. Lang Son UNESCO Global Geopark possesses unique geological heritage values of international stature, with a system of majestic caves and unique sinkholes. Places such as Nguom Mooc Cave, Tham Lum Sinkhole and Ung Roac Sinkhole are clear evidence of this value, not only having scientific significance but also strongly attracting tourists, especially those with a passion for exploration and adventure.

In addition, Lang Son UNESCO Global Geopark is also home to rich biodiversity, with diverse ecosystems and many rare species of flora and fauna, such as Huu Lien Nature Reserve. This biodiversity opens up great potential for ecotourism and nature discovery tourism.
Not only that, Lang Son is also a land rich in culture and history, with many unique historical and cultural relics, creating a harmonious combination of geological, biological and cultural values, a brilliant tapestry of ethnic diversity, with contributions of unique customs and traditions of each ethnic group.
The spiritual life of the Geopark is deeply rooted in Dao Mau, a Mother Goddess worship religion recognized by UNESCO. In addition, Then - an indispensable ritual practice in the spiritual life of the Tay and Nung people of Lang Son, as well as in the Northeastern provinces of Vietnam and some other localities, reflecting the concepts of human beings, the natural world and the universe, has also been inscribed by UNESCO on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The harmonious combination of natural history, cultural diversity and spiritual traditions makes Lang Son UNESCO Global Geopark a unique destination to explore and discover. It is considered a beacon for sustainable development, a celebration of the resilience of nature and culture.
Since the establishment of the Geopark, the total number of tourists to Lang Son has increased every year, with more investors interested in and looking for investment opportunities in the province. Currently, Lang Son UNESCO Global Geopark has formed 04 tourist routes with 38 Geopark attractions with the theme "The flow of life in the sacred land": Route 1: Discovering the Upper World; Route 2: Journey to the Heavenly Realm; Route 3: Rustic life on earth; Route 4: Road to the Aquarium.
Lang Son UNESCO Global Geopark is expected to be one of the breakthrough tourism products, attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists, contributing to promoting the province's tourism potential and strengths.

In the coming time, Lang Son province will focus on implementing synchronous solutions to preserve, embellish and promote the value of Lang Son UNESCO Global Geopark with a synchronous infrastructure system and technical facilities, rationally exploiting geological, landscape and cultural values to serve sustainable tourism development, building a strategy to develop the brand "Lang Son UNESCO Global Geopark - The flow of life in the sacred land" and the "Magnificent expedition" tour to explore Lang Son UNESCO Global Geopark, making Lang Son UNESCO Global Geopark an important driving force in the tourism - service development strategy, aiming to build tourism into a spearhead economic sector of Lang Son province.
