Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh emphasized: The Opening Ceremony of the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025 is the opening event for a series of cultural, sports, and tourism activities taking place throughout the provinces and cities nationwide, promising to make Hue a tourism and cultural hub of Vietnam and the region, contributing to promoting and inspiring tourism among the people, creating momentum to promote the recovery and sustainable development of the tourism industry. Tourism is a key economic sector, not only contributing to creating jobs and improving income for millions of workers, helping many households in remote areas escape poverty, bringing a new look and reviving historical sites after years of "sleep," but also promoting cooperation, cultural exchange, international integration, building friendship, preserving peace, and helping the unique cultural values of the nation to be promoted, deeply ingrained, and spread domestically and internationally.

In just two years, 2023 and 2024, Vietnam's tourism industry has experienced a spectacular recovery. Vietnam is now the fourth largest destination in ASEAN in terms of visitor numbers and total tourism revenue. Vietnam continues to improve its ranking in the Tourism Competitiveness Index; receiving numerous prestigious tourism awards such as "Asia's Leading Tourist Destination," "World's Leading Heritage Destination," and hundreds of awards from other tourism businesses. This serves as a strong impetus for further breakthroughs in the future.
Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh emphasized: “Vietnam is entering a new era, where tourism is not only an experience, but also a bridge of friendship, cooperation, and sustainable development. Resolution No. 08 of 2017 by the Politburo clearly stated that “Vietnam’s tourism industry has made strong progress, but its potential and advantages are still significant, requiring us to continuously strive and innovate.” In the coming time, the tourism industry needs to thoroughly implement the Prime Minister’s directive on comprehensive, rapid, and sustainable tourism development with the motto “Unique products - Professional services - Convenient and simple procedures - Affordable prices - Clean and beautiful environment - Safe, civilized, and friendly destinations.”

Within the framework of the National Tourism Year 2025, along with Hue City, many provinces and cities nationwide will also organize various events such as sports tournaments, food festivals, tourism weeks, cultural weeks, etc., to introduce and promote the image, tangible and intangible cultural values, resources and unique tourism products of Vietnam in general, Hue City and other provinces/cities in particular, while promoting regional linkages for tourism development.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Head of the Steering Committee for the National Tourism Year Hue 2025, stated: “To ensure the entire sector achieves the goal of welcoming 22-23 million international visitors and serving 120-130 million domestic tourists in 2025, making Vietnam an attractive destination for international cultural, sports and tourism exchange, and contributing to the successful implementation of the socio-economic development plan with a growth target of 8% or more, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will proactively coordinate regularly and closely with other ministries, sectors, Hue city and other provinces/cities, and the business community.”

Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee, stated that the National Tourism Year 2025 is an opportunity for Hue to showcase its cultural, historical, and natural beauty to domestic and international tourists. “With the theme ‘Ancient Capital, New Opportunities,’ this is not only a great honor as Hue has officially become a centrally-governed city, but also a strong motivation for Hue to continue preserving, honoring, and spreading traditional cultural values; and at the same time, an opportunity for Hue to affirm its aspiration to rise, innovate, and create, towards a sustainable future in a new era – the era of the Vietnamese nation's progress.”
The opening art program of the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025 is themed "The River's Love Song".
The opening art program for the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025 lasted 90 minutes, with the theme "The River's Love Song," comprising three parts: "The Legend of a River," "The Convergence of Rivers," and "The New Flow of Rivers," honoring the tangible and intangible cultural values and unique tourism resources of Vietnam. Over 800 renowned actors, singers, and artists from Vietnam and international art troupes from China and South Korea participated in the performances. The opening night also featured many impressive acts such as light shows, electronic drums, water shows, panogama water music, flying dragons, and paragliding... The highlight was a high-altitude fireworks display at the Hue Citadel area.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Duong, a tourist from Hanoi, shared her feelings: “This is my first time participating in such a large-scale art program, and I feel very nervous. I find the stage on the Perfume River quite special and unique. The program is very elaborately staged and visually striking; the stage design, effects, and props are all quite special. Coming here to watch it, I was very surprised and happy to be able to attend this program.”
The program was meticulously prepared.
The National Tourism Year 2025, themed “Hue – Ancient Capital, New Opportunities,” is linked to the Hue Festival 2025 and includes 160 major events of national and international significance. Of these, Hue City will organize 75 activities, and other provinces and cities nationwide will organize numerous supporting events.

Activities in Hue are centered around four seasonal festivals: the Spring Festival "Spring in the Ancient Capital", the Summer Festival "The Shining Imperial City", the Autumn Festival "Hue in Autumn", and the Winter Festival "Winter in Hue". Hue expects to welcome approximately 5.5 million visitors during the National Tourism Year 2025, generating revenue of around 10,800 to 11,200 billion VND.
