Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC) has officially closed the El Feel oil field in southwestern Libya, further exacerbating supply disruptions in the North African nation amid a growing political crisis.
According to NxOC, Libya's total crude oil production has plummeted from over 1.17 million barrels per day recorded in July 2024, before the oil fields were blockaded, to 591,000 barrels per day currently.
On August 26, authorities in eastern Libya, backed by General Khalifa Haftar, commander of the Libyan National Army, announced the closure of all oil fields and the suspension of all crude oil production and exports from the North African nation.
The latest move by the eastern authorities comes after the Libyan National Unity Government (GNU) in Tripoli, headed by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, decided to dismiss Sadiq Al Kabir, the governor of the Central Bank of Libya (CBL). The head of the CBL was responsible for managing and distributing oil revenues to the two parallel governments in Libya.
