Lotus products of Phong Phu ward farmers are implementing the OCOP product process.

In 2024, farmers in Phong Hien (now Phong Thai ward) were supported by the city's Farmers' Association to implement a black apple snail farming model at the Bac Trieu Vinh Farmers' Association, with a total investment of nearly 100 million VND, including 10 member households participating in production linkage. In addition to financial support and seed, Farmers' Associations at all levels organized training on black apple snail farming techniques for farmers. At the same time, they regularly monitored and communicated to grasp the development of the seed, promptly instructed on how to handle sick or slow-growing seed snails, etc.

Mr. Hoang Them, a farmer participating in the model, said that all farming households have guaranteed pond conditions, unpolluted natural water sources, and an ecosystem in the water that helps snails grow well. The food sources for snails are abundant and available locally, mainly cassava leaves, jackfruit fibers, duckweed, banana leaves, etc. Households are supported by HND with funding and technical training to ensure model development, production linkage and product output, bringing in a stable source of income.

The black apple snail farming model in Phong Thai has initially brought high economic efficiency. With a farming period of 4 months/crop, 10 ponds of households yielded 2 tons of commercial snails, with a price of 80 thousand VND/kg, bringing the people a revenue of 160 million VND/crop. Currently, the snails have reproduced, households have proactively propagated and expanded the ponds, at the same time selling snail seeds to households in need and sharing experiences, instructing farming techniques for new households.

With rich and diverse natural conditions, fertile land and great potential, Phong Thai, Phong Dinh, Phong Dien and Phong Phu wards (belonging to the old Phong Dien town) have been able to develop comprehensive agriculture including agriculture, forestry and fishery in the direction of commodity production. In order for local agricultural products to stand firm in the market and help farmers have stable output, the Farmers' Association at all levels has built a production model linked to the value chain and connected to the consumption of agricultural products.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Quang, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the ward, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Phong Thai ward, from 2020 to 2024, the Farmers' Associations at all levels in the old Phong Dien town have established 2 vocational Farmers' Association branches, 15 vocational Farmers' Association groups, 2 cooperative groups and 2 cooperatives with many different fields and occupations, creating many agricultural products for the locality, meeting market demand. The associations at all levels also act as a bridge connecting with companies and production facilities to solve the output for products of farmer members; coordinate with functional units, the Department of Intellectual Property to guide the procedures for registering trademarks of each locality's strong products in the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program. Up to now, the wards of the old Phong Dien town have 9 OCOP products, including 4 4-star products and 5 products meeting 3-star standards.

Linking in agricultural production is becoming a new direction to help farmers increase the value of sustainable products, support product consumption, promote production efficiency, and help consumers benefit through access to safe agricultural products at competitive prices. This is a new model that brings higher economic efficiency to participating members. Thereby, it contributes significantly to the development of production and business in the direction of scale, opening up new opportunities for people.
