Although Liverpool were known to be in poor form, no one could believe they would lose 1-4 to a much weaker team like PSV Eindhoven. And that's not even considering they were playing at home at Anfield.
In every aspect, from defense to attack, Liverpool played below the standards of a top team.
In the 5th minute, center-back Virgil Van Dijk – Liverpool's most reliable defender – made a mistake by handling the ball in the penalty area, giving PSV Eindhoven a penalty.
It's incomprehensible how a top-class center-back like Van Dijk could make such a silly handball. While jumping to clear the ball from a PSV Eindhoven corner kick, Van Dijk's hand hit the ball as if he were playing volleyball.
Ivan Perišić didn't miss the opportunity to score the opening goal of the match from the penalty spot.
Ten minutes later, Liverpool found the equalizer, making it 1-1, thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai's close-range rebound. This goal boosted the morale of the Liverpool players, who played more effectively in the following minutes.

In fact, they had two clear chances to break through the opponent's defense, but luck was not on the side of Hugo Ekitie (31st minute) and Virgil Van Dijk (32nd minute). The two teams went into halftime with the score 1-1, which held much promise for Liverpool. However, the fans at Anfield could not have imagined the disaster that was about to strike in the second half.
In the 56th minute, Mauro Júnior dribbled from the wing straight through the middle and delivered a perfect pass for Guus Til to tap the ball in, putting PSV Eindhoven 2-1 up. Liverpool were forced to push forward after the goal, but while still struggling to find an equalizer, they conceded a third.

In the 72nd minute, center-back Ibrahima Konate misjudged the ball, giving Ricardo Pepi the opportunity to steal it, dribble straight into the penalty area, and shoot, hitting the post. The ball rebounded, and Couhaib Driouech was in the right place at the right time to tap in the rebound, increasing PSV Eindhoven's lead to 3-1.
Things got even worse for Liverpool in the 90+1 minute. Esmir Bajraktarevic made a great run down the right wing and then passed the ball back to Couhaib Driouech, who finished to seal a 4-1 victory for PSV.
This heavy defeat shows that Liverpool's decline is on the rise and manager Arne Slot's position is under serious threat.
