Eight Sleep made its debut in China through an event at the Inno100 flagship store in Shenzhen. This marks the first time the $1.5 billion smart bed startup from Silicon Valley has entered the Chinese market after 12 years of operation.
Eight Sleep is famous for its Pod product line, which features a special coating that automatically adjusts the bed temperature to suit each person while they sleep. Elon Musk uses this product everywhere he lives. Mark Zuckerberg and F1 driver Charles Leclerc are also loyal customers of the brand. The Pod line has achieved cumulative sales of over $500 million globally.
To enter the Chinese market, Eight Sleep made significant concessions. First, the company completely eliminated the $199 /year subscription fee, a mandatory fee in overseas markets to unlock all AI features and smart controls. Second, the selling price in China is significantly lower than in international markets. The standard-sized Pod5 model on Chinese e-commerce platforms costs 18,999 yuan ( $2,850 ), much lower than the $3,918 price in the US.
Max, co-founder and CTO of Eight Sleep, said the company decided to enter China because the Pod5 product had matured enough and after receiving funding from Sequoia China in a Series D round in 2025.
"Eight Sleep will have positive free cash flow by 2025. That means we're not entering China to expand at all costs," Max said.

However, Eight Sleep faces fierce competition from domestic brands. Dreamok, a startup from Suzhou, has a design that is almost a complete copy of the Pod. This company was founded by Bernie, the former head of the smart driving department at Xiaomi SU7. There is also Xiri, a smart mattress brand nurtured within the Dreame ecosystem, which recently completed a funding round of nearly 100 million RMB ( US$15 million ) earlier this year with its positioning as a "smart AI mattress".
Eight Sleep is initially focusing on high-income customers, selling through JD.com and Tmall Luxury, offering a 30-day in-home trial and a money-back guarantee if unsatisfied. The company has expanded its workforce in China to 40 people, representing nearly 40% of its global workforce.
