The box office for the 2026 Lunar New Year saw a dominance of Vietnamese films, including four films that were released on the first day of the Lunar New Year (February 17).

Tran Thanh returns to the Lunar New Year film race with "Tho Oi" (Oh, Little Rabbit), which explores the psychological conflicts of couples facing doubts, temptations, hurt, and deception in love. Besides directing, he also acts alongside a host of new talents: LyLy, Phao, Van Mai Huong, Vinh Dam, and others.

Meanwhile, "The Scent of Pho" (directed by Minh Beta) immerses viewers in the rich culture of Northern Vietnam with a story full of laughter intertwined with conflicts and disagreements within a multi-generational family of a pho chef who is constantly preoccupied with passing on his craft. The film features a cast including Meritorious Artist Xuan Hinh, Thu Trang, Thanh Thanh Hien, Ha Huong, and others.

My Father's One-Room House, directed and starring Truong Giang, portrays the generational gap between a conservative father and his teenage daughter (Doan Minh Anh) in an old, cramped living space.

"Heaven-Sent Treasure" (directed by Le Thanh Son) marks the reunion of Tuan Tran and Phuong Anh Dao, with a story that is both humorous and tense about the bizarre relationship between a single mother who gives birth thanks to donated sperm and a "heaven-sent" father.

Additionally, the Vietnamese box office for the 2026 Lunar New Year season will also feature "Let's Go Home" (directed by Tran Dinh Hien, released February 26th), which tells the story of Phuong's (Uyen An) family's unforgettable trip , filled with a range of emotions: happiness, hurt, conflict, and ultimately reconciliation and healing. Audiences also have another option with "Thank You for Staying Up With Me" (directed by Chung Chi Cong, released February 27th), which revolves around the journey of young people searching for their dreams amidst harsh realities.

Besides, Vietnamese cinemas during Tet (Lunar New Year) also feature a series of international animated films. The first day of Tet sees the premiere of "Rabbit and Chicken's Adventure in the Underground Tunnel ," which opens with Chickenhare and his companions' perilous journey to save their species. Meanwhile, "Pet Squad: The Battle on the Railway" tells the story of a group of pets fighting off a dangerous plot, and "Dinosaurs Celebrate Tet - Exploring a Time-Traveling Journey" both premiere on the fourth day of Tet (February 20th).
