Advantages of wind and sun

Member of the Provincial Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Trong Yen affirmed that Lam Dong has great natural potential for wind and sunshine - advantages for developing renewable energy: wind power, solar power, especially offshore wind power.

According to the provincial authorities, after the merger, Lam Dong has 192 km of coastline, and a fishing ground of more than 52,000 ^km2 . With high wind hours and stable wind speeds, Lam Dong is considered a province with great potential for offshore wind power development. In addition, Lam Dong also possesses a large plateau terrain and abundant solar radiation - favorable conditions to attract investment projects in the solar energy sector. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee shared: Developing renewable energy (wind energy, solar energy...) will reduce dependence on fossil energy. Developing renewable energy is determined to be consistent with the province's industrial development plan until 2030.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade of the province, Lam Dong currently has 97 renewable energy projects in operation, with a total capacity of over 3,887 MW, accounting for over 47% of the total capacity of power sources. In the approved National Power Development Plan (Supplemental Power Plan VIII), the total capacity of renewable energy sources allocated in the province is expected to be over 5,625 MW by 2030 and over 5,532 MW in the period 2031 - 2035. Power Plan VIII opens up new opportunities for Lam Dong to attract investors to the locality to invest in developing renewable energy and green energy, thereby promoting economic growth in Lam Dong.

Recently, Lam Dong has focused on organizing and implementing drastic and synchronous solutions to exploit potentials and promote renewable energy development in the locality. The province has also attracted many economic sectors to participate in developing renewable energy sources. Renewable energy projects have played a role in electricity production and distribution. High electricity growth is the driving force for industrial development in the province, in addition to meeting the electricity needs of people and businesses in the dry season. Safe and stable electricity supply also contributes to socio-economic development and ensuring security and defense in the locality.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade of the province, regarding the strategy for developing renewable energy sources, Lam Dong ensures compliance with the VIII Power Plan and the adjusted VIII Power Plan according to the principle of optimizing the overall factors of power sources, power transmission, power distribution, economical and efficient use of electricity, at the same time, having a suitable roadmap along with protecting resources, the environment and transforming the economic model, ensuring national energy security at the lowest cost. Lam Dong also determines to develop renewable energy and new energy, with the goal of forming a comprehensive energy industrial ecosystem based on renewable energy and new energy in the direction of developing a green economy, a circular economy, a low-carbon economy, as well as ensuring the energy transition in line with international trends, sustainability and fairness.

In order for Lam Dong to soon become an inter-regional renewable energy industry and service center, in the coming time, the locality will promote the attraction and strong development of offshore wind power projects, combined with other types of renewable energy to serve domestic demand and export. Lam Dong's goal is to attract investment in offshore wind power of about 2,000 MW in the 2025 - 2030 period and about 2,300 MW in the 2031 - 2035 period.
