Apology at the trial

At the trial, the lawyer representing the legal rights and interests of defendant TBL (born in 2008) asked the defendant if he regretted his actions and if he wanted to personally apologize to the victim and the victim's family at the trial. Defendant L. timidly replied, "Yes, I do want to."

Even though he was standing before the witness stand, as soon as instructed by his lawyer, the defendant L. immediately turned to face the victim and the victim's father, clasped his hands and bowed his head: "H., please forgive me."; "Uncle, I'm sorry, because of us you have to go through so much trouble to take care of H."

The atmosphere in the courtroom became somber. The victim nodded, accepting the defendant's apology . The victim's father also nodded, appearing satisfied. Earlier, during the statement by the victim's representative, the victim's father had angrily said: "What angers my family the most is that the defendants and their families did not visit my son at home, nor did they offer an apology."

The trial of defendant TBL and his group of friends for assaulting someone in a coffee shop is underway.

Although defendant TBL did not directly participate in the chase and inflicting injuries on victim H., at the time of the incident at the "Sidewalk" cafe, defendant L. was only standing in a distant corner observing. However, the act of consenting with the other defendants was sufficient to constitute a crime and must bear the consequences. The defendants' quick agreement and consent increased the aggressiveness in their thoughts and actions, leading to the criminal act.

The case stemmed from a conflict that occurred around 8 PM on February 9, 2025, at the "Sidewalk" coffee shop in Hamlet 5, An Xuyen Ward. The defendants LVH (Hamlet 1, Tan Thanh Ward); PTP, LMN, D.NTT, TBL, all residing in An Xuyen Ward and all minors, along with NGH (from An Xuyen Ward, under 16 years old), brought weapons to the coffee shop to assault Dat's group. The defendants threw beer bottles towards the shop, causing many people to flee in panic. Among the group drinking coffee, DTH (Hamlet 13, An Xuyen Ward) ran towards the restroom, but LVH and NGH chased after him, assaulting him with weapons. Only when someone shouted, "His finger is gone!" did the perpetrators leave the scene.

In the case of "Intentional Infliction of Injury" and "Illegal Use of Military Weapons" recently tried at the People's Court of Region 1 - Ca Mau , only defendant TBL received a suspended sentence among the five defendants. The defendant's remorse and acknowledgment of his wrongdoing made the suspended sentence more acceptable to the victim and their family.

Many young people followed the trial from the hallway outside the courtroom.

The apology at the trial of defendant TBL was not merely a formality. The trial attracted a large following of young people, including friends, relatives, and acquaintances of the defendants. When the apology was delivered, many young people bowed their heads in deep reflection. That apology, more than any theoretical or dogmatic lesson, helped young people better understand their own actions, prompting them to consider and adjust their behavior to be more ethical and, above all, in accordance with the law.
