As of early May 2025, Long An province had harvested approximately 1.4 million tons of rice, reaching 48% of the year's plan.
Although production decreased slightly compared to the same period in 2024, the quality of rice improved positively, with high-quality rice estimated at 1 million tons, accounting for 77% of the total harvested production.
High-quality rice accounts for a large proportion of the total production.
High-quality rice is currently considered a strategic direction for the province, contributing to increasing production value and meeting the demands of the export market.
Rice varieties such as Dai Thom 8, OM 5451, OM 18, etc., continue to be preferred due to their good disease resistance, stable yield, and market popularity.
Many localities in the province, especially key districts such as Thanh Hoa, Tan Thanh, Vinh Hung, etc., have actively converted their production areas to high-quality rice varieties; at the same time, they have applied advanced farming models such as the "1 must, 5 reductions" model, and production according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards .
In the coming period, the province will continue to focus on solutions to improve seed quality, expand the application of synchronized mechanization, and strengthen market promotion, especially the export of high-quality rice to demanding markets such as Japan, the EU, and South Korea.
