Luka Modric bid farewell to Real Madrid

Midfielder Luka Modric has confirmed his departure from Real Madrid after the FIFA Club World Cup, bringing to a close a glorious career.

“The moment has arrived. The moment I never wanted to face… This Saturday, I will play my last game at Santiago Bernabeu,” Luka Modric announced in an emotional message.

While Xabi Alonso, Carlo Ancelotti's former teammate and soon-to-be successor, agreed with the assumptions, reality sometimes differs significantly from them.

After a week of negotiations with Real Madrid, there was no agreement from the club.

Therefore, Modric himself announced his departure. "Real Madrid will always be my home. For life," he wrote on social media.

Modric is willing to remain in the role of a "luxury substitute." Once again, he's accepting a pay cut, as he did last summer.

His plan is to stay with Real until 2026, to retire at Bernabeu before participating in the World Cup with Croatia in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

However, during the negotiations, Luka didn't see any clarity. The final farewell would be at the FIFA Club World Cup.

This Saturday will be his last time playing in front of the fans at the Bernabeu, against Sociedad (9:15 PM on May 24th), something Ancelotti will also do . Last year, Toni Kroos did the same.
