The number of people playing games on Windows 11 is steadily increasing.

According to Neowin , in the latest reports from the tech industry, many users still prefer Windows 10 over Windows 11, with only 23% of users choosing to upgrade to the latest version of the Windows operating system. However, in the video game market, things are quite different.

Accordingly, the improvements and optimizations for gaming on Windows 11 are driving the gaming community to upgrade to this version. Valve's monthly 'Hardware & Software Survey' has shown that gamers are increasingly upgrading their operating systems. Specifically, nearly 34% of Steam customers are currently running Microsoft's latest operating system.

According to the survey results, May saw 96.14% of all Steam users accessing the platform from Windows (down 0.24% from the previous month). Of these, 60.51% were running Windows 10 (down 0.7%) and 33.99% were running Windows 11 (up 0.6%).

Older operating systems still exist but only hold a very small market share: Windows 7 64-bit has 1.17% (down 0.11%), Windows 8.1 64-bit has 0.29% (down 0.02%), and Windows 7 32-bit is at 0.08%.

Users still using Windows 7 and Windows 8 should prepare for an operating system upgrade because Valve plans to discontinue Steam on older versions of Windows starting January 1, 2024.
