Tony Leung Chiu Wai was moved when receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Venice Film Festival.
At the awards ceremony, the 61-year-old actor was moved to tears as he received a long standing ovation from the audience. “The award is like a dream come true,” Tony Leung told Reuters.
The Asian film star gained international recognition for his roles in films directed by Wong Kar-wai such as "In the Mood for Love" released in 2000 and "2046" released in 2004.
He also appeared in a trio of films that won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival – A City of Sadness (1989), Cyclo (1995) and Lust, Warning (2007).

Speaking to reporters before the ceremony, the actor said acting had helped him become less shy. “I used to suppress all my emotions inside. I couldn’t express all my emotions in front of others,” he said.
Tony Leung also discussed his upcoming film, the Hong Kong crime action film The Goldfinger , which hits theaters later this year. The film will reunite him with Andy Lau, his co-star from the 2002 hit Infernal Affairs .
He also shared that he will soon face a big challenge: participating in his first European film: Silent Friend, directed by Hungary's Ildikó Enyedi. "I plan to spend about 8 months preparing for the film. I will play a neuroscientist. So I have to read a lot of books and study continuously at university," he shared.
