Sixty-nine years ago, in a letter to medical staff on February 27, 1955, President Ho Chi Minh instructed: “Patients entrust their lives to you; the Government entrusts you with the task of treating illnesses and maintaining the health of our people. This is a very glorious task. Therefore, doctors must love and care for patients as if they were their own siblings, considering their pain as their own pain; a good doctor must be like a loving mother.” Following his teachings, over the years, the staff of the health sector have continuously studied, improved their expertise, mastered many new techniques, and gradually improved the quality of healthcare for the people.

Cultivate virtue, hone skills, and build medical ethics.
One must see it firsthand to understand the pressure and hardship faced by the doctors and nurses of the Emergency and Intensive Care Unit 2 at Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital. On holidays as well as weekdays, the work of the doctors, nurses, and staff here is always busy from early morning until late at night, battling death to save patients' lives; one wrong decision can cost a life.
Dr. Lam Tien Tung, Head of the Emergency and Intensive Care Unit 2, said that the unit receives nearly 200 emergency cases every day, many of which are life-threatening due to stroke, traumatic brain injury, myocardial infarction, etc. From morning to night, the doctors continuously examine and treat patients, sometimes with numb legs and rumbling stomachs, but unable to rest. Each difficult case is a new challenge, but also an opportunity to learn and improve professional knowledge, and the most precious reward for us is saving patients from the brink of death and helping them return to normal life.
In an interview with People's Physician, Specialist Doctor II Le Van Sy, Director of Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital, it was learned that, along with performing its professional duties well, the hospital pays special attention to cultivating moral character and honing skills, constantly building a team of doctors who are both ethically sound and professionally competent; investing in advanced facilities and equipment; and implementing high-level, specialized techniques and achievements, continuously improving the quality of medical examination and treatment, worthy of being a leading institution in the province's health sector.
As one of the medical units with a team of doctors and medical staff providing excellent medical services to the people, Meritorious Doctor, Specialist II Nguyen Ngoc Han, Director of Trieu Son District General Hospital, affirmed that the hospital has concretized its key tasks, namely changing the style and attitude of medical staff in service, associated with building a green, clean, and beautiful working environment aimed at patient satisfaction; strengthening training to improve the professional level of doctors and medical staff; continuously renovating and upgrading facilities to become increasingly modern, applying advanced management models towards autonomy, and strengthening the application of information technology in hospital management and operation..., thereby building a reputation with patients, and the number of patients coming to the hospital for examination and treatment is increasing.
Over the years, every medical staff member, doctor, and nurse in the province has strived to uphold medical ethics, continuously learning and improving their professional skills, saving the lives of many patients, including numerous critically ill patients. The sector has also launched many emulation movements to implement President Ho Chi Minh's teachings, linking them with medical ethics, developing technical services to improve hospital quality, and building green, clean, beautiful, and safe hospitals. As a result, there has been a strong and profound transformation in the awareness of all staff members in the sector. Medical staff have effectively communicated with patients, showing care, concern, sharing, and encouragement as if they were their own family. The sector also regularly inspects and monitors, promptly rewarding and highlighting exemplary individuals while strictly reminding and criticizing those who cause inconvenience or negativity in medical examination and treatment. Errors at medical facilities are gradually being eliminated, and professional responsibility and compassion for patients are increasingly enhanced.
Facilitating people's access to the best healthcare services.
Synchronized infrastructure and a high-quality workforce are crucial foundations for the healthcare sector to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment. The sector has implemented many solutions to meet the increasing demands of the people. In particular, many new, advanced, and specialized techniques have been successfully implemented by medical facilities and units in the area.
Furthermore, the sector has continuously innovated its training and professional development programs, focusing on in-depth training in clinical specialties and other specialties based on the needs and development orientations of various units. Priority is given to contract training for technology transfer, and advanced training in professional skills within teams; the flexible deployment and utilization of high-quality human resources is crucial to overcoming difficulties at the grassroots level. Simultaneously, the grassroots healthcare system continues to be strengthened and improved, facilitating access to healthcare services for the public.
Dr. Nguyen Ba Can, Acting Director of the Department of Health, said: Following President Ho Chi Minh's teachings, over the years the health sector has continuously developed a comprehensive and modern system of medical facilities and equipment, alongside building a high-quality workforce to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment for the people. Medical facilities in the area continue to implement comprehensive solutions to improve the quality of medical services, aiming for people's satisfaction; actively implement solutions to promote the application of information technology and digital transformation in management and medical examination and treatment activities; strengthen the application of science and technology, and apply new and advanced techniques to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment...
From investing in infrastructure and medical equipment to human resources, people not only in urban areas but also in remote, disadvantaged, and particularly difficult regions have access to quality healthcare services and advanced techniques without incurring travel costs, thus reducing the burden on higher-level hospitals. Currently, the province has 37 hospital beds per 10,000 people, and the number of doctors is 11.7 per 10,000 people (among the top in the country); disease prevention and control and targeted health programs are focused on and effectively implemented by the health sector. This result affirms the capacity of medical facilities and the trust of patients in the medical staff in the province.
The medical profession is a noble profession honored by society as a whole. Proud of its glorious tradition and deeply aware of the great responsibility and tasks entrusted by President Ho Chi Minh and the Party and the people, every official, civil servant, and worker in the entire health sector always remembers President Ho Chi Minh's teaching: "A good doctor must be like a loving mother." From there, they continuously strive to cultivate virtue and talent, continuing to build a progressively modern healthcare system to meet the needs of protecting, caring for, and improving the health of the people.
