Traveling nearly 2,000km from Ba Ria - Vung Tau province to visit Dien Bien Phu, the first place veteran Nguyen The Thuong chose to visit was the Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum. Mr. Thuong shared: As a soldier who directly fought with guns on the Southeast battlefield, I somewhat understand the hardships, difficulties and sacrifices of the Dien Bien soldiers in the past. The documents and artifacts at the Museum are clear evidence of the bravery, patriotism, military art and blood sacrifice of many generations of revolutionary soldiers to create the Dien Bien Phu Victory. That is also the message of the generations of fathers and brothers: always cherish the value of peace!

The Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum is located on Vo Nguyen Giap Street, Muong Thanh Ward, Dien Bien Phu City, opposite the A1 National Martyrs' Cemetery and near the following historical sites: Martyrs' Temple on F Hill; A1 Hill; General De Castries' Command Bunker, Victory Monument... The project was built in 2012 and inaugurated in 2014 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory. It is designed in a modern architectural style, shaped like a bamboo hat covered with camouflage net along with a system of concrete and steel bars forming a diamond shape symbolizing the defensive shirt of the Dien Bien soldiers in the past. The entire first floor of the Museum has an area of 1,250m2, displaying nearly 1,000 documents, artifacts, photos, and maps organized scientifically and artistically according to 5 themes: Overview of the resistance war against the French colonialists; Dien Bien Phu Campaign; The impact of the Dien Bien Phu victory on the country and the world; The support of the world's people in the Dien Bien Phu campaign and Honor. Each document and artifact is a story, a specific and vivid evidence of the 56 days and nights of "digging mountains, sleeping in tunnels, eating rice balls in the pouring rain" of the soldiers with "undaunted courage and unwavering will" that made the great victory of the Vietnamese people.

The closer to the 70th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory, the more tourists of all ages and from all over the country come to visit and experience the Museum. From mothers and sisters in traditional ao dai to veterans with sparkling medals on their chests, teachers and children wearing red flags with yellow stars... everyone takes a moment of silence to recall the important moments of the whole nation.

The special highlight of the Dien Bien Phu Victory Museum is the entire central space, with an area of 4,500m2, dedicated to the Panorama Painting, which simultaneously displays typical moments of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign. This is the first and only panoramic painting in Vietnam, the largest in Southeast Asia and one of three large circular paintings in the world.

The museum's priceless artifacts and beautiful scenery have attracted visitors.

The work was started in 2013 and completed in May 2022. The painting was painted by nearly 200 young artists who graduated from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts, using oil paint on canvas in a 360-degree space, 20.5m high, 132m long, 42m in diameter, the relief part arranges the specimens in succession, the dome part shows the peaceful sky creating a painting with a total area of 3,225m2.

With their artistic talent, skillful and talented hands and deep gratitude, the artists vividly and realistically depicted more than 4,500 characters, the majestic Northwest mountains and forests, and the fierce grandeur of the Dien Bien Phu Battlefield in 1954 with 4 segments from "The whole people go to battle", "The majestic prelude", to "The historic confrontation" and "The triumphant song celebrating the victory".

Ms. Luong Thi Hong Luong, a tour guide at the Museum, shared: The design of the dome roof of the painting is two skies, one outer circle is the sky of fiery bombs and bullets of war, the middle is the peaceful blue sky, giving visitors the feeling of standing under the peaceful sky to look at the war. The most touching thing is that every time the veteran revolutionaries come, they shed tears because they seem to relive the difficult years of war.

According to Ms. Vu Thi Tuyet Nga, Director of the Museum, from 2018 to 2022, the Museum attracted over 1.5 million visitors, in 2023 there were 155,686 visitors.
