In the process of building new rural areas, in addition to focusing on investing in and upgrading infrastructure serving production, daily life, and the people's economy to make each village increasingly prosperous, the Party Committee, government, and people of Kim Son district have strived to preserve and promote the beautiful traditional cultural features and maintain the soul of the countryside.

Arriving at Lac Thien village, Quang Thien commune, on an early winter day, we were impressed by the neat and clean scenery. The village gate was solemn and ancient, and the lush green trees created a truly peaceful atmosphere. Along the roads, various flowers were blooming, the yellow of the vinca flowers, the red of the portulaca... In the grounds of many households, rows of betel nut trees, fish ponds, and thriving fruit orchards were still preserved.

Mr. Phan Thanh Ngo, Deputy Head of the Celebration Committee of Lac Thien village, shared: "During the implementation of the New Rural Area criteria, we always strive to preserve the traditional values of our village. Historical relics, traditional festivals, and folk games are maintained and preserved by the villagers."

Every year from the 12th to the 14th of November in the lunar calendar, the villagers participate in the traditional festival at the Nguyen Cong Tru Temple to commemorate the contributions of the Land Reclamation Commissioner – who recruited people to reclaim land from the sea and establish Kim Son district on April 5, 1829. Through these activities, community cohesion and solidarity among hamlets and villages are strengthened. People strictly adhere to village customs and regulations; outdated customs in funeral and wedding ceremonies are gradually eliminated, and people actively adopt a new, economical, and civilized way of life.

Speaking with reporters, Comrade Pham Xuan Phuc, Vice Chairman of the Quang Thien Commune People's Committee, said: The implementation of the "All People Unite to Build a Culturally Rich Life" movement, linked with the construction of new rural areas in the locality, has contributed to improving the quality of life for the people. It has become a habit for villagers to clean up, care for, and trim trees along the roads every week. Currently, 100% of the roads in the commune are planted with flowers and trees, creating a green, clean, and beautiful environment. In addition, cultural, artistic, and sports activities in the hamlets are also very lively. All 16 hamlets in the commune have folk dance clubs. After school and work, the community center becomes a gathering place for residents, where people practice Tai Chi, play chess, dance folk dances, play table tennis and volleyball; and young people play football and badminton...

Recognizing that building new rural areas does not mean urbanizing the countryside but rather preserving its "soul," Kim Son district has, in recent years, alongside focusing on leading economic development and infrastructure construction, paid special attention to directing the creation of a safe and healthy new rural cultural environment, fostering civilized and friendly people, and actively preserving the landscapes, architecture, and culture deeply rooted in the local traditions.

The district is currently preserving 169 cultural relics, including 6 national-level historical and cultural relics and 33 provincial-level historical and cultural relics. The preservation, restoration, and development of traditional art forms such as Cheo singing, Van singing, Ca Tru singing, and Xam singing are always given attention. At the district level, there are 3 traditional art clubs, 1 poetry club, and 1 club promoting revolutionary songs. At the commune level, there are 23 cultural and artistic clubs; and 137 performing arts groups in villages and hamlets are operating effectively. The emulation movement to build cultural agencies and units, cultural villages (hamlets), model new rural residential areas, and cultural families is enthusiastically supported by all levels, sectors, and the people of Kim Son.

By the end of 2021, nearly 94% of villages and hamlets in the district had been recognized as "Culturally Advanced Residential Areas," 87% of families had achieved the title of "Culturally Advanced Family," and over 85% of agencies, units, and businesses had met cultural standards. Through this movement, community awareness, solidarity, responsibility, and neighborly bonds in each residential area were awakened and nurtured.

Sharing with reporters, Comrade Pham Van Sang, Head of the Culture and Information Department of Kim Son district, said: "In the coming time, we will continue to explore and expand the activities of the Culture sector in a diverse direction, focusing on the grassroots level to have more practical activities that suit the needs and attract the participation of the local people. All of this aims to create a rich and vibrant picture of traditional culture, deeply rooted in the identity of Kim Son homeland, alongside economic development and improving the material and spiritual lives of the people."
