Building an advanced Vietnamese culture, rich in national identity, so that Vietnamese culture and people truly become an intrinsic strength, creating momentum for national development and defense, is a task that the Party and State of Vietnam pay special attention to.
Based on the objectives of the Project "Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development" (Project 6) under the National Target Program for socio -economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, Binh Thuan province is striving to restore, preserve, and promote traditional cultural values to enhance the cultural enjoyment of the people.
In the warm atmosphere of early spring, at the cultural centers of ethnic minority and mountainous communities, songs and melodies resound, creating a captivating choral symphony that enchants visitors from afar. It's the youthful, cheerful energy of the young men and women; the modern, graceful charm of their traditional ao dai dresses and skirts; the harmonious blend of gongs, Ghi-nang drums, and Saranai horns; and the call-and-response singing of folk songs... all captivating the hearts of the listeners.
Traditional folk culture and arts are truly vibrant, promoting positive values and contributing to nurturing the souls of each individual during the Lunar New Year. This result demonstrates the initial effectiveness of Project 6.
Mr. Doan Van Thuan, Director of the Provincial Museum, stated: To concretize the goals and content according to the plan of the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in 2023 and 2024, the Provincial Museum opened 3 classes teaching traditional K'ho weaving techniques; 8 classes teaching Chăm ethnic musical instruments and K'ho folk songs, dances, and music; 1 class teaching traditional pottery making techniques; and 2 classes teaching Aryia chanting of the Chăm people. At the same time, the museum preserved and promoted typical traditional festivals of ethnic minorities, exploiting and developing products to serve tourism development; and built an open-air warehouse model for the collection of Chăm royal cultural heritage in Bac Binh district, connecting with Chăm cultural heritage tourism routes in the locality.
Encouragingly, the training classes attract not only men but also many women's association members and youth union members. Each course lasts 10 consecutive days and takes place during the agricultural harvest season, yet all students adhere to the rules and schedules, showing enthusiasm and passion. The artisans, despite being in their seventies, continue to diligently teach.
According to Mr. Doan Van Thuan: “The intensified implementation of the contents of Project 6 has helped people better understand the role and significance of preserving national culture. It continues to promote local efforts in grassroots propaganda, arousing pride and responsibility for preservation among those who hold the heritage. At the same time, it creates opportunities for elderly artisans to pass on their culture to the younger generation, contributing to strengthening national unity and contributing to socio-economic development.”
The culture of ethnic minorities has been and continues to be an important component of Vietnamese culture, a valuable asset of the country contributing to the building of an advanced Vietnamese culture rich in national identity. Promoting cultural heritage in the new era not only requires preserving the original values correctly, but also developing additional positive values to enrich the spiritual life of each person in the ethnic community, while also contributing positively to the development of tourism in the area.
