Twitter's removal of the New York Times' blue check comes amid concerns that billionaire Elon Musk is running a paid blue check program for users, which could lead to misinformation coming from accounts that use money to verify their authenticity.

Previously, on April 1, in a Twitter post about the New York Times' refusal to pay for the green tick fee, Mr. Musk said: " The real tragedy of the New York Times is that their propaganda is not interesting at all ."

Twitter's boss said the content shared by the New York Times on Twitter was "unreadable", referring to negative information about former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

"They would have more real followers if they only shared their best articles," the Twitter boss said, adding that other newspapers should do the same.

A few hours after billionaire Musk's announcement, the New York Times Twitter account lost its blue tick.

Not only the New York Times, many other American newspapers and news channels have also announced that they will not participate in Twitter's paid blue tick program. According to CNN reporter Oliver Darcy, this news channel has no plans to pay a monthly fee for their blue tick on Twitter.

In a previous statement, Twitter said it would begin removing old blue ticks and gradually replacing them with paid blue ticks from April 1.
