Mainoo fell out of favor under Amorim. |
The Athletic reports that the young Manchester United midfielder has officially expressed his desire to leave the club on loan in the summer transfer window, with the main aim being to help him get more regular playing time.
Manchester Evening News added that Mainoo also made it clear to Manchester United's board that he only wanted to move on loan and was not willing to be sold permanently this summer.
Mainoo's contract with Manchester United runs until 2027, with an option to extend for a further year, allowing the Red Devils to loan him out to other clubs. Mainoo's desire comes as Manchester United have endured a difficult start to the 2025/26 season, with two draws and defeats in the Premier League against Arsenal and Fulham, and a shock defeat to Grimsby Town in the League Cup.
Coach Amorim seems to prioritize experienced midfielders, leaving Mainoo with few opportunities. Manchester United's board obviously do not want to lose this young talent, and are looking for destinations willing to loan the player.
Clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and Fulham have expressed interest in taking Mainoo on loan, where he could get more playing time. At Old Trafford, Mainoo is facing a contract stalemate, with his previous demands of £180,000 a week rejected by the Manchester United board.
