The cultural house of Ban Dong hamlet, Hop Thanh commune, was built with the architecture of the Tay ethnic group, reviving traditional cultural activities in the locality.
...To overcome this problem, in recent years, the province has actively restored relics and preserved traditional cultural values.
During the resistance war against French colonialism, Dinh Hoa Safe Zone (ATK) was the residence and workplace of Uncle Ho, the senior revolutionary leaders of the Party, State, and army, and the headquarters of many ministries and branches... When the State ranked it as a special national historical relic site, Thai Nguyen province established a specialized management unit, devoted significant resources, and mobilized many organizations and units to join hands in restoring and preserving 13 important relics here.
According to Nguyen Manh Thuong, Head of the Management Board of Special National Monuments of Thai Nguyen province, thanks to good conservation work, in 2024, there will be 2,260 delegations with more than 110,000 visitors coming to visit, research, experience, and travel historically and culturally at ATK Dinh Hoa. The national historical site of the 915 Youth Volunteer Company - Team 91 Bac Thai in Gia Sang ward, the place of worship for 60 youth volunteer martyrs who sacrificed their lives on Christmas Eve 1972, has been restored and renovated, attracting tens of thousands of students, young people, veterans, and people to burn incense and pay tribute to the heroic martyrs every year. The number of people, students and young people coming to ATK Dinh Hoa and the relics of the 915 Youth Volunteer Company - Team 91 Bac Thai is increasing, showing that the province is interested in restoring, embellishing and promoting the value of historical relics, contributing to propagating and educating revolutionary traditions for the younger generation.
Many cultural relics have also been invested in by Thai Nguyen province to restore and promote their value recently. Typically, the province has mobilized more than 60 billion VND from the budget and socialized sources to restore the spacious and ancient Ly Nam De temple, which annually attracts thousands of visitors and local people to worship and pay tribute to their ancestors. The national relic of Duom temple, worshiping the famous general Duong Tu Minh, is being restored to meet the religious needs of the people. The Duom temple festival with its solemn and traditional rituals, ranked as a national intangible cultural heritage, is also taught to the next generation to have proficient ritual practice skills...
With a population of over 1.7 million people, including more than 50 ethnic minorities, Thai Nguyen has many nationally ranked intangible cultural heritages, typically Nom script of the Dao people and the art of sewing and embroidery of the Dao people; Vi singing of the Tay people; Tac Xinh dance, Sang Co singing, the Harvest Festival of the San Chay people; Long Tong Festival of the Tay people... In places with intangible cultural heritages, clubs have been established, invested in costumes, equipment, and musical instruments to preserve and promote the value of the heritage.
Not only that, the industrial, construction and service sectors in the southern part of Thai Nguyen province are increasingly dominant, shifting labor from agriculture to other sectors faster and faster, affecting the national cultural identity, especially traditional architecture.
Faced with that situation, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thai Nguyen province has implemented the conservation of traditional villages typical of three ethnic groups, namely the Nung ethnic village in Tan Do hamlet, Van Lang commune; the San Chi traditional village in Dong Keu hamlet, Phu Dinh commune and the Tay ethnic traditional village in Ban Dong hamlet, Hop Thanh commune. Ban Dong hamlet, Hop Thanh commune has 137 households, of which 132 are Tay ethnic households, but the cultural house is degraded, small, and does not have enough seats for people to sit during meetings; there is no space for people to organize cultural activities and community activities. Implementing the conservation of the Tay ethnic traditional village in Ban Dong hamlet, after consulting, collecting opinions, and reaching an agreement with the community and local authorities, the Department has organized the construction of a cultural house, which is also a community activity house with the characteristics of the traditional stilt houses of the Tay ethnic group, spacious, well-equipped, and long-term sustainable.
Ms. Ma Thi Bau, Head of the Front Committee of Ban Dong hamlet, said: “Since the hamlet’s cultural house was built, everyone is excited because people have a place to play sports, participate in cultural activities, and participate in folk arts; on holidays, Tet, and Spring Festivals, the community has a space to organize and restore traditional cultural and artistic activities such as pounding rice cakes, playing bird’s nest, and tug of war…”.
The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thai Nguyen province met with households in Ban Dong hamlet and the commune government to select a number of traditional stilt houses to restore, preserve and welcome community tourists to enjoy products made from famous sticky rice. According to Mr. Nguyen Van Giap, 80 years old, a Tay ethnic and a prestigious person in Ban Dong hamlet, along with preserving the stilt houses, the children in the hamlet go to school and work far away, but when they return home, they always maintain communication in the Tay language to preserve the language of their ethnic group.
Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thai Nguyen province, Nguyen Van Ngoc, said: With investment solutions to restore and embellish historical and cultural relics; training, restoration, provision of equipment, traditional costumes, arousing the passion of artisans, establishing a series of clubs, the value of relics, many cultural heritages of ethnic groups in the province are preserved, promoted in association with community tourism, contributing to the sustainable development of Thai Nguyen.
