The match between Bournemouth and Burnley in round 10 of the Premier League witnessed a rare incident. In the extra minutes, Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez ran down and scored against Bournemouth, tying the score to 2-2.

In this situation, the linesman raised his flag for offside. Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology immediately stepped in to clarify this incident. But the problem is that Jay Rodriguez's position relative to the last Burnley player (excluding the goalkeeper) is quite sensitive.

Initially, VAR officials Michael Salisbury and Nick Hopton overturned the linesman's decision, deciding that the Burnley striker was not offside. But they later felt something was wrong and called for a re-check.

In a recheck, VAR determined that Jay Rodriguez was offside by just a few millimeters and therefore disallowed Burnley's goal. This process took more than 5 minutes.

According to The Sun, this is the longest VAR check in Premier League history. Previously, the record for VAR check time was 3 minutes and 45 seconds in the match between Sheffield United and Tottenham in November 2019.

Jay Rodriguez and the entire Burnley team held their heads in regret after being denied an equalizer. On the other side, the entire Bournemouth team celebrated wildly after a thrilling victory.

After the match, Bournemouth manager Androni Iraola revealed that he told the referees not to rush to check VAR. Instead, they should take their time to make the most accurate decision.

Coach Iraola said: "I don't know how long the referee checked VAR. I told them to take their time to do their job. We can wait, instead of having to receive an apology after the match."

By defeating Burnley 2-1, Bournemouth smiled their first victory of the season. They escaped the bottom position with 6 points. Meanwhile, Burnley was pushed to the second to last position with 4 points.
