At 10:00 PM tonight (December 9th), Man Utd will host Bournemouth at home in the 16th round of the Premier League. Ahead of this match, the Red Devils have received a series of unwelcome news regarding their squad.
Manchester United's official website announced that center-back Victor Lindelof will be unavailable due to injury. The Swedish player had previously left the pitch early in the midweek match against Chelsea and has been unable to participate in recent training sessions.
In recent times, Lindelof has combined quite well with Harry Maguire in the Manchester United defense. With the Swedish star unavailable, manager Ten Hag may use Raphael Varane. The French player has not been used much lately due to disagreements with manager Ten Hag.
In addition to Lindelof, Man Utd will also be without striker Marcus Rashford. The 26-year-old missed yesterday's training session due to illness. The English forward was on the bench for the recent match against Chelsea and only came on in the 84th minute, when Man Utd were leading 2-1.
Recently, Rashford has been out of form and has faced considerable criticism. After 14 appearances in the Premier League this season, the striker born in 1997 has only scored 2 goals.
Explaining the reason for benching Rashford, coach Ten Hag said: "Rashford is an excellent player. However, he can't play in every game. I always have to rotate the squad. Although Rashford hasn't shown the same form as last season, I'm sure he will return."
That depends on Rashford's efforts. The competition in the squad is very high, and the best players will get to play. If he wants to be used regularly, Rashford needs to put in his best effort."
Manchester United have won six of their last eight Premier League matches. This has propelled them up to sixth place in the table with 27 points, just three points behind four-placed Manchester City. In recent years, Man Utd have generally held the upper hand against Bournemouth, winning seven of their last eight encounters.
