Baleba is being pursued by Manchester United. |
Man Utd inquire about signing a fifth new player.
Immediately after reaching an agreement to sign Benjamin Sesko, MU proceeded with the deal for Carlos Baleba from Brighton.
According to The Athletic , Manchester United have contacted Brighton to inquire about signing Carlos Baleba, the midfielder currently playing for Brighton. Previously, the Old Trafford club had already secured four signings: Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon, and Benjamin Sesko.
Carlos Baleba, 21, is considered one of the most promising young talents in the Premier League after joining Brighton from Lille. Despite having three years remaining on his contract with the AMEX Stadium club, Baleba's impressive performances as a defensive midfielder have attracted interest from several big clubs, including Manchester United.
Currently, the young player born in 2004 is valued at 40 million euros by Transfermarkt. The actual price to acquire Baleba will be much higher, as Brighton has no intention of selling him. MU has a slight advantage in the deal, as Baleba is a teammate of Andre Onana in the Cameroon national team. Previously, Onana also persuaded Bryan Mbeumo to join MU.
Amidst a flurry of rumors, Brighton's CEO, Paul Barber, has officially spoken out to clarify the situation. Barber affirmed that he has not received any contact from Manchester United but did not rule out the possibility of Baleba leaving.
"Manchester United have not contacted me," Barber told BBC Sussex . "We will always try to keep our best players and only sell them at the right time, if it benefits both the player and the club."
Head coach Fabian Hurzeler was also present at the event and expressed his desire to keep Baleba for the long term. While acknowledging that football is an unpredictable sport , Brighton's management still has faith in the young talent's long-term future at the club.
