The kick caused Dzeko a serious injury. |
At 39 years old, Dzeko remains a key player for the Bosnia & Herzegovina national team. He recently helped the national team secure a 1-0 victory against Romania in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Europe on March 22nd. However, he left the field injured after a strong collision with an opposing defender.
On his personal page, Dzeko posted a photo of his bruised face with a defiant message: "All or nothing." The image shows him with serious injuries, including two black eye sockets, a swollen nose, and blood, sending chills down viewers' spines. Dzeko was forced to return to Türkiye for further examination.
"The Fenerbahce striker looks like he's just been through a real battle, with stitches in his eye and bandages around his arm," The Sun described. Earlier in the season, Dzeko had posted a photo of blood coming from his eye after another collision.
Mario Balotelli joked, "You look handsome." Radja Nainggolan chimed in, "Great looks." And Anderson Talisca offered words of encouragement: "Stay strong, brother." Goalkeeper Ifran Can Egribayat called him a "Legend."
Dzeko has won two Premier League titles with Man City. He is currently the captain and most capped player in the history of the Bosnia & Herzegovina national team with 140 appearances, and also holds the record for most goals with 67.
Unfortunately, due to this injury, he will be unable to participate in the match against Cyprus on March 25th. Head coach Sergej Barbarez shared: “I think Edin Dzeko’s nose is broken. He wasn’t in the dressing room. I don’t have precise information yet, but the situation seems serious.”
