Taking us to visit the fruit tree growing models of the commune, Mr. Nguyen Trong Hiep, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong Bu commune, said: Muong Bu commune was established on the basis of merging the old communes of Muong Chum, Ta Bu and Muong Bu, with a total area of 213.65 km² and a population of 25,284 people. In recent years, the communes have promoted and mobilized people to choose crops suitable for local conditions such as mango, jackfruit, apple, lychee, banana, etc. Cooperating with specialized agencies to organize training and technical guidance on fruit tree care, organic production, VietGAP standards, changing the thinking and production methods of farmers, gradually building brands, expanding domestic consumption and export markets. Up to now, the whole commune has more than 3,400 hectares of fruit trees of all kinds, with an output of more than 20,000 tons of fruit of all kinds per year. People's lives have gradually improved, the poverty rate has decreased to 4.25%.
Switching to fruit tree growing, Mr. Lo Van Thang's family in Dong Luong village has had a good income. Mr. Thang happily said: My family borrowed 40 million VND from the Social Policy Bank to invest in converting 2 hectares of ineffective corn and cassava land to lychee growing. Thanks to training and guidance on planting and care techniques according to VietGAP process, each year we harvest 15 - 17 tons of lychee, earning an income of 250 - 270 million VND/year.
Along with encouraging households to develop the economy , Muong Bu commune realized that small-scale, individual production would be difficult to create sustainable competitiveness in the market. Therefore, the commune has actively encouraged and supported people to establish cooperatives. Thereby promoting the role of cooperatives as a bridge, organizing production according to VietGAP standards, ensuring consistent product quality and also being the focal point for signing product consumption contracts to help farmers no longer have to worry about output.
Minh Thuong Agricultural Cooperative is one of the typical models for this direction. Established in 2021, the Cooperative has rapidly developed and become one of the units with a reputable safe fruit supply chain, with a 54-hectare cultivation area specializing in growing longan, mango, jackfruit and apple.
Mr. Lo Van Thuong, Director of the Cooperative, shared: We promote and mobilize members to apply scientific and technical advances to the entire process from care, harvesting to product preservation. Thanks to the support of specialized agencies in production according to VietGAP process, the Cooperative's products have high quality, contributing to increasing economic value on a cultivated area. Each year, the Cooperative harvests over 200 tons of fresh fruit, providing stable raw materials for processing companies, maintaining domestic distribution channels and exporting to China. Revenue reaches over 1.3 billion VND/year, average income per household is from 150-200 million VND/year.
Thanks to the outstanding economic efficiency of fruit trees, many households in Muong Bu commune have risen out of poverty and become rich legitimately. With the orientation of sustainable fruit tree development, Muong Bu commune continues to create conditions for cooperatives and farming households to promote products, promote trade, expand markets; access preferential capital sources to expand production, business, apply high technology to production and create safe products, gradually building the Muong Bu fruit brand.
