Real Madrid's new signing, Kylian Mbappe, is demanding that his former club, Paris St Germain, pay him €100 million in unpaid wages and bonuses.
According to L'Équipe, Mbappe claims that PSG owes him the remaining portion of his salary and various bonuses, including a loyalty bonus, which has not been paid since April.
Despite his significant contributions to PSG during his seven years with the club, Mbappe's departure from the French team was not a happy one. He left as a free agent after his contract expired, but PSG, particularly President Nasser Al-Khelaifi, were not pleased.
Although initial reports suggested that Mbappe didn't need PSG to pay him loyalty bonuses, the latest developments indicate he is embroiled in a financial dispute with the French club.
The issue revolves around a total sum of 100 million euros, including outstanding wages and loyalty bonuses agreed upon as part of the contract.
Mbappe's representatives cited Article 259 of the Professional Football Regulations to support their claim. This article stipulates that clubs must pay the salaries of contracted players on the last day of each month, subject to the terms of general law. Mbappe's team is leveraging this provision to emphasize the club's obligation to fulfill its financial commitments.
PSG's stance and ongoing negotiations, despite the unclear outstanding payments, suggest that PSG has no intention of paying the remaining amount. The club's delay has led to a stalemate, although the situation has not yet escalated to a legal dispute. Both sides are currently in talks, attempting to reach an amicable solution.
Currently, Mbappe and PSG are still in negotiations. The 25-year-old striker has not yet taken legal action, indicating his willingness to resolve the issue through dialogue. However, the outcome of these negotiations remains uncertain.
Currently, Mbappe is with the French national team participating in EURO 2024. He hasn't scored any goals in the tournament yet, but he suffered a broken nose and had to miss the match against the Netherlands on the morning of June 22nd.
