After numerous negotiations, Brentford agreed to let Mbeumo join Manchester United in a deal worth a total of £71 million, of which £65 million was the transfer fee.
Once the deal is finalized, Mbeumo will become the most expensive player sale in Brentford's history. The previous record belonged to Ivan Toney, who moved to Al Ahli for £33.6 million in the summer of 2024.
In just one year, Brentford earned nearly £100 million from the sale of two key players, something unprecedented in the club's history.
Mbeumo joined Brentford from Troyes in August 2019, when the team was still playing in the Championship. At the time, the £5.8 million transfer fee was considered a club record. To date, the decision to let Mbeumo join Manchester United has resulted in a significant profit for Brentford.
Throughout its transfer history, this club has repeatedly made significant profits from selling players. Deals such as Ollie Watkins (to Aston Villa), David Raya (to Arsenal), and Said Benrahma (to West Ham) all generated substantial returns.
In the 2024/25 season, Mbeumo delivered an outstanding performance with 20 goals and 7 assists, helping Brentford finish 10th in the league table.
Following Mbeumo's departure, Brentford are likely to sell striker Yoane Wissa, who is attracting interest from Tottenham.
