After many negotiations, Brentford agreed to let Mbeumo join MU in a contract worth a total of 71 million pounds. Of which, 65 million pounds is the transfer fee.
Once the deal is completed, Mbeumo will become the most expensive player sale in Brentford's history. The previous record was held by Ivan Toney, who moved to Al Ahli for £33.6m in the summer of 2024.
In just one year, Brentford have raised nearly £100m from the sale of two key players, something that has never happened in the club's history.
Mbeumo joined Brentford from Troyes in August 2019, when the team was still playing in the Championship. At that time, the transfer fee of £5.8 million was considered a club record. To date, the decision to let Mbeumo join MU has brought Brentford a huge profit.
In the history of the transfer market, the club has made a lot of profit from selling players. Contracts such as Ollie Watkins (to Aston Villa), David Raya (to Arsenal) or Said Benrahma (to West Ham) all brought significant profits.
In the 2024/25 season, Mbeumo showed excellent form with 20 goals and 7 assists, contributing to Brentford finishing in 10th place in the rankings.
After parting ways with Mbeumo, Brentford are likely to sell striker Yoane Wissa, who is attracting interest from Tottenham.
