On the morning of January 22nd, according to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, a strong cold air mass has affected a wide area of Northern Vietnam, North Central Vietnam, and parts of Central Vietnam.
In Northern Vietnam, many areas continue to experience intense cold, with some mountainous regions experiencing severe cold. The lowest recorded temperatures from the night of January 21st to the morning of January 22nd were: Mau Son (Lang Son) 0.2°C, Tam Dao (Vinh Phuc) 5.8°C, Hanoi (Ha Dong) 10.8°C, and Hung Yen 9.6°C.
In the North Central region, the weather is turning cold, with the lowest temperatures ranging from 14-17 degrees Celsius, specifically 14.2 degrees Celsius in Thanh Hoa and 19.2 degrees Celsius in Vinh (Nghe An). Scattered light rain is occurring in areas from Lao Cai , the southern part of Phu Tho province to Thanh Hoa and Nghe An.
At sea, strong northeasterly winds of force 6-7, gusting to force 8-9, are expected; waves will be 2-6 meters high, and the sea will be rough. Vessels operating in the Gulf of Tonkin and the sea area from southern Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa should take precautions for safety.
The National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting warns that over the next 24-48 hours, the northern and north-central regions of Vietnam will continue to experience intense cold, with temperatures in mountainous areas dropping below 4 degrees Celsius, posing a risk of frost. Most areas will be cloudy with scattered light rain. The central region and coastal areas from Nghe An to Hue will also experience cold weather.
According to meteorological experts, this cold front is very strong. The National Steering Committee for Civil Defense has issued two official documents requesting localities to respond to this severe cold spell. The main focus is on protecting people's health and agricultural production, and ensuring the safety of ships at sea from strong winds caused by the cold front.
