According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from today (August 17th) to tomorrow, Northern Vietnam will mostly experience scattered showers and thunderstorms in some areas; the delta region will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the late afternoon and evening, with intermittent sunshine during the day and maximum temperatures above 34 degrees Celsius.

From August 19th, a new low-pressure trough will form, bringing back rain to the North , lasting until around August 22nd, with some areas forecasting heavy to very heavy rain.

The Central region continues to experience hot weather, with some areas experiencing intense heat. Specifically, on August 17-18, the area from Quang Binh to Ninh Thuan will have maximum temperatures of 35-37 degrees Celsius, with some places exceeding 37 degrees; the lowest relative humidity will generally be 50-55%. The provinces of Thanh Hoa and Ha Tinh will experience milder heat due to scattered showers and thunderstorms.

The Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam are currently in the rainy season, so although it's quite sunny during the day, there's still a possibility of mild thunderstorms in the evening.

Northern region

August 17th: Showers and thunderstorms in some areas, sunny during the day, with localized heatwaves; scattered showers and thunderstorms in the Northern Delta region.

From August 18-23: Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected, with showers and scattered thunderstorms from August 19-22, and locally heavy rain in some areas, mainly in the late afternoon and evening.

The meteorological agency notes that during this period, small streams in the upper reaches of the Northern region are likely to experience a flood from August 19-22, with flood levels rising by 1-3 meters.

Central Vietnam

August 17th: The North Central region will have sunny weather, with localized heatwaves; scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the late afternoon and evening. The Central and South Central regions will experience hot weather, with some areas experiencing intense heat; scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the late afternoon and night.

From August 18-23: sunny and hot days, intensely hot in some areas, with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evening and at night.

Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam

From August 17-23: sunny days, with localized hot weather; scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evening and at night. Specifically, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the evening and night of August 20-21.

Hanoi area

From August 17-23: Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected, with showers and scattered thunderstorms specifically from August 19-22, and locally heavy rain in some areas, mainly in the late afternoon and evening.

The meteorological agency warned that areas across the country could experience tornadoes, hailstorms, and strong gusts of wind during thunderstorms.

Furthermore, regarding the weather forecast at sea, the meteorological agency stated that during this period, wave heights in most sea areas will be low, below 2m. However, in the offshore areas of the Gulf of Tonkin, the waters off Binh Dinh and Ninh Thuan provinces, and the northern and central parts of the East Sea, wave heights will range from 1.5-2.5m, with slightly rough seas. In particular, the likelihood of tropical cyclones forming is low.

Cold fronts are likely to start as early as September. Cold fronts are likely to begin operating from September to October, with a tendency to increase in frequency and intensity from November. Tropical storms/depressions in the East Sea may appear in rapid succession, with the number of storms making landfall predicted to be higher than the multi-year average.
