According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, on December 12, the northern region was affected by a reinforced cold front shifting eastward, combined with wind convergence at an altitude of 1,500m.
Therefore, many mountainous areas in Northern Vietnam experienced showers and thunderstorms, with localized heavy rainfall of 20-40mm, and in some places over 60mm. From the night of December 12th, the rain gradually decreased.
In Hanoi , there will be light fog and possible light rain, but it will not last long. The weather will remain sunny in the afternoon. Due to the weak and eastward-shifting cold air mass, temperatures in the Northern Delta will remain high, fluctuating between 20-28 degrees Celsius.
In its weather forecast for the entire country from now until January 10, 2024, the meteorological agency stated that typhoons or tropical depressions still have the potential to appear in the southern South China Sea.
Over the next month, cold fronts will continue to increase in frequency and intensity. Particularly in the latter half of December, Northern Vietnam and North Central Vietnam are likely to experience a severe cold spell.
In the first half of January 2024, the region may still experience severe cold weather, but it will not last long. Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rains will continue to occur in Central and Southern Central Vietnam.

- From Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue: Scattered rain, light fog in the early morning, decreasing cloud cover and sunny in the afternoon. Lowest temperature 21-24°C; highest temperature 27-30°C.
- From Da Nang to Binh Thuan: Sunny during the day, with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evening and at night. Northeast wind at level 2-3. Lowest temperature 22-25 degrees Celsius; highest temperature 28-31 degrees Celsius.
- Central Highlands: Sunny during the day, with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evening and at night. Northeast to east winds, force 2-3. Lowest temperature 17-20°C; highest temperature 28-31°C.
- Southern Vietnam: Sunny during the day, with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evening and at night. Northeast to east winds, force 2-3. Lowest temperature 22-25°C; highest temperature 31-34°C.
