Thunderstorms return to the North.

According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, on the evening and night of August 17th, the Northern and North Central regions of Vietnam will experience scattered showers and thunderstorms with rainfall amounts generally ranging from 10-30mm, and in some localized areas exceeding 50mm.

Thunderstorms following a day of intense heat brought a rapid drop in temperature, cooling down the northern region. However, residents should be wary of the possibility of accompanying tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind. Heavy rainfall over a short period could cause flooding in urban areas.

On July 18th, Hanoi and the provinces and cities of the Northern Delta experienced reduced rainfall and sunshine. Temperatures rose to 32-34 degrees Celsius, with continued hot and humid conditions during the midday and afternoon. In the Northwest region, thunderstorms continued in many areas.

Meanwhile, a prolonged heatwave is affecting the area from Nghe An to Ninh Thuan. Maximum temperatures reach 35-37 degrees Celsius, with some areas experiencing intense heat exceeding 37 degrees Celsius.

- Hanoi: Showers and thunderstorms at night, with localized heavy rain; sunny during the day. Lowest temperature 26-28°C, highest temperature 32-34°C.

- Northwestern region: Scattered showers and thunderstorms at night, with localized heavy rain. Rain and thunderstorms in some areas during the day. Lowest temperature 24-27°C; highest temperature 32-35°C.

- Northeast region: Scattered showers and thunderstorms at night, with heavy rain in some areas. Showers and thunderstorms in a few places during the day. Lowest temperature 25-28°C; highest temperature 31-34°C, with some places exceeding 34°C.

- From Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue: Showers and thunderstorms in some areas at night, scattered showers and thunderstorms during the day. Locally heavy rain, hot and sunny during the day, intensely hot in some places. Lowest temperature 26-29 degrees Celsius; highest temperature 34-37 degrees Celsius.

- From Da Nang to Binh Thuan: Showers and thunderstorms in some areas at night; sunny and hot during the day, with some areas experiencing intense heat. Lowest temperature 25-28 degrees Celsius; highest temperature 34-37 degrees Celsius.

- Central Highlands: Showers and thunderstorms in some areas at night; sunny during the day. Lowest temperature 21-24°C; highest temperature 30-33°C.

- Southern Vietnam: Showers and thunderstorms in some areas at night; sunny during the day. Lowest temperature 24-27°C; highest temperature 32-35°C.
