Northern Vietnam is about to experience intense and prolonged heatwaves.

However, experts note that on intensely hot days, one should be wary of sudden thunderstorms that may appear in the late afternoon. These thunderstorms are characterized by their unexpected arrival (only 45 minutes to an hour in advance), heavy rainfall, accompanied by lightning, strong winds, and gusts.

The area from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang, eastern Quang Ngai , Binh Dinh and the former Phu Yen also experienced hot weather on May 22nd, with some areas experiencing intense heat with maximum temperatures commonly ranging from 35-37 degrees Celsius, and in some places exceeding 37 degrees Celsius, and minimum relative humidity commonly ranging from 45-50%.

In Southern Vietnam and the Central Highlands, the widespread heatwave has ended, and the region is entering the rainy season with typical weather patterns of sunny days, followed by scattered showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening, with localized moderate to heavy rainfall. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.

The meteorological agency notes that actual temperatures can be 2-4 degrees higher than those in the forecast, or even much higher, depending on the surface such as concrete or asphalt. Central areas of large cities also often record significantly higher temperatures than suburban areas due to the urban heat island effect.
