In 2019, Binh Dinh province (now Gia Lai province) planned to relocate three large hotels east of An Duong Vuong road, including Binh Duong, Hai Au, and Hoang Yen hotels, in order to restore the landscape of Quy Nhon coastline.
Accordingly, the Binh Duong hotel was the first to be dealt with; the province spent over 43 billion VND to compensate and allocated more than 2,800 m2 of new land in Quy Nhon Nam ward for the 15th Army Corps to rebuild the guesthouse.
The demolition was carried out through an auction of assets. Accordingly, a contractor won the bid to dismantle the structure. In return, this contractor had the right to recover and utilize the steel and other usable items during the demolition process, and was responsible for cleaning up and handing over a clean site.
Mr. Ngo Tung Son, Director of the Gia Lai Provincial Land Development Center, said that this land will be handed over to the Quy Nhon Nam Ward People's Committee for management and use as a park.
According to observations by Tien Phong reporters , the structure is being dismantled to return the land to the local authorities as soon as possible. The hotel area has been fenced off to ensure the safety of residents and tourists. Regarding the Hoang Yen and Hai Au hotels, the leaders of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee stated that they will be relocated, but with a phased approach. This is also to avoid waste, as both hotels are operating effectively and have become brands of Quy Nhon. The Hai Au Hotel was built in 2005 (a Class II construction, with a lifespan of 50-100 years), and its facilities are still in good condition. The adjacent Hoang Yen Hotel, however, has a land lease until 2052.
