On the evening of May 28th, thousands of people and Buddhist followers flocked to Phap Hoa Pagoda to participate in the lantern-releasing ceremony on the occasion of the Buddha's Birthday, causing many roads along the Nhieu Loc canal, such as Hoang Sa, Truong Sa, and Le Van Sy, to be packed with people and vehicles.

The banks of the canal were crowded with people. Before releasing the lanterns, monks, nuns, Buddhists, and local people held lanterns in their hands and recited prayers during the sacred moment of Buddha's birthday celebration.

Long lines of people formed in front of the lantern-releasing area early in the morning. For this occasion, the temple prepared 6,000 lanterns to distribute to people participating in the Buddha's birthday celebration.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien (Go Vap ward) sincerely prayed for peace, health, and happiness for her family. “This is the first time I’ve participated in the lantern-releasing ceremony on Buddha’s birthday. Even though I arrived early, the area was already very crowded,” she said.

Quynh Huong (from Hanh Thong ward) said: “The space is very enchanting and meaningful. This is not only a spiritual activity but also an opportunity for people to find peace and send good wishes to themselves and their families,” Huong said.

Many people also prepare flowers at home and write wishes for peace and good health on the petals.

Cát Tường and her friends excitedly joined the crowd queuing to release floating lanterns. "Every year we try to arrange our time to participate in the lantern release ceremony. Even though there are many people, the atmosphere is still solemn, and everyone is sincere," she shared.

The lantern-releasing ceremony is an annual event at Phap Hoa Pagoda during the Buddha's birthday season, taking place in the fourth lunar month to commemorate the birth of Shakyamuni Buddha. It is considered the largest-scale event in Ho Chi Minh City during the annual Buddha's birthday celebration.
