When will the cold, rainy weather in Northern Vietnam last?

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí12/01/2024

On January 13th, northern Vietnam entered its fourth day of a prolonged period of cold and rainy weather due to the influence of a cold front. Drizzle and showers continued, with humidity exceeding 80%. The lowest temperatures remained at 16-18 degrees Celsius, with some mountainous areas experiencing temperatures below 14 degrees Celsius.

According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting's forecast chart, temperatures in the North will rise slightly in the coming days, with warmer weather during the day. However, showers and drizzle will continue, possibly until around January 17th.

Prolonged periods of wet weather can cause inconvenience for people commuting and also affect their health.

In its weather forecast for the period from now until February 10th, the meteorological agency stated that the average temperature nationwide will be 1-2 degrees Celsius higher than the multi-year average.

Over the next month, cold air masses are expected to be less active than in the same period last year, resulting in fewer days of intense cold and frost in Northern and North Central Vietnam. Conversely, total rainfall in these two regions will generally be 10-20mm higher than average, with Northwest Vietnam receiving 20-30mm more.

In Central Vietnam, total rainfall was 10-20mm lower, and specifically from Quang Nam to Khanh Hoa, it was 20-40mm lower than the same period last year. The Central Highlands and Southern regions also experienced generally low rainfall.

Today (January 13th), water levels along the southeastern coast of Vietnam are trending upwards, with the highest level at the Vung Tau station potentially reaching 4.15-4.2m.

Due to the influence of high tides, low-lying areas, riverside areas, and areas outside the dikes in the southeastern coastal region of Vietnam are likely to experience flooding during the early morning and afternoon. This phenomenon also increases the risk of saltwater intrusion in the rivers of the area.

Weather forecast for January 13th across the country:
