The entire Long Thanh interchange will be opened from the end of May.

(Chinhphu.vn) - The entire Long Thanh interchange is expected to be fully opened to traffic by the end of May. The completion of this interchange is expected to enhance connectivity between the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway and the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway.

The branches and traffic routes of the Long Thanh interchange area.

According to information from Road Management Area IV (Vietnam Road Administration), the unit has just conducted a site inspection, agreed on a traffic organization plan, and will soon put all remaining branches at the Long Thanh intersection (Long Thanh ward, Dong Nai city) into operation.

Bring the entire Long Thanh interchange into operation as soon as possible.

Following on-site inspections, all parties have basically agreed on the principle of putting the entire intersection into operation by the end of May. The units also agreed on several additional solutions such as installing more traffic signs, prohibition signs, traffic flow guidance signs, painting road markings, and improving the warning system to ensure the safety of road users.

According to Project Management Board 85, in the initial phase of operation, the new Long Thanh interchange will only have two lanes for vehicles entering the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau route from lane number 2 of road T2 and exiting the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway via lane N7 and lane number 1 of road T2.

Currently, the route only allows cars with fewer than 9 seats to travel, with a maximum speed of 80km/h and a minimum speed of 60km/h. This makes traffic flow inconvenient because it is an important interchange connecting to the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway in all directions, so the entire interchange needs to be urgently opened to serve the people.

It is expected that by the end of May, the remaining branches of the Long Thanh interchange will be completed, including branch 3 connecting vehicles from the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway heading from Bien Hoa to Vung Tau to merge onto the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway to go to Dau Giay. Branch 12 serves vehicles from Ho Chi Minh City heading to Dau Giay, turning onto the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway to make a U-turn towards Bien Hoa.

Additionally, branch 4 will connect vehicles traveling from Dau Giay towards Ho Chi Minh City to the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway to reach Bien Hoa. Branch 1 serves vehicles from the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway merging onto the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway to access National Highway 51 or return to Ho Chi Minh City. Branch 6 will allow vehicles from the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway to turn onto the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway towards Vung Tau.

Organize lane separation early to make it easier for drivers to observe when merging lanes.

According to assessments by relevant authorities, the biggest challenge lies in the risk of traffic conflicts at the merging and diverging of traffic flows from Bien Hoa or Vung Tau heading towards Ho Chi Minh City and onto National Highway 51 at the Long Thanh intersection.

Therefore, to ensure safe operation, the proposed traffic management plan involves reinforcing the road with rigid median barriers and traffic cones, and organizing lane divisions early to facilitate driver observation when entering the route. Simultaneously, the road markings will be made more prominent, additional directional and warning signs will be added, and speed limits will be gradually reduced in turning areas to minimize the risk of traffic accidents. This plan has been accepted by the investor and assigned to the contractor for early implementation.

Previously, from May 18th, over 54km of the main section of the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway had been put into operation. At 6 PM on May 24th, a new traffic management plan was implemented for vehicles entering the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway from branch 2 of route T2 at the Long Thanh interchange.

However, because the Long Thanh interchange is not yet fully operational in all directions, traffic remains limited. Currently, vehicles from Bien Hoa, Trang Bom, or the former Binh Duong area entering the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway can only pass through the Vo Nguyen Giap interchange and can exit at the 992 interchange or National Highway 56; they cannot yet exit directly onto Long Thanh.

Similarly, vehicles from Ho Chi Minh City, Long Thanh, or Nhon Trach entering the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway via branch 2 of route T2 currently only travel towards Vung Tau beach and cannot yet go in the opposite direction towards Bien Hoa. Vehicles from Dau Giay wanting to enter the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway must exit onto National Highway 51 and then loop back; they cannot enter directly.

The early commissioning of all branches of the Long Thanh interchange is expected to alleviate existing connectivity bottlenecks, maximize the effectiveness of the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway, and make travel between Dong Nai City, Ho Chi Minh City, and the Southeast region more convenient.

Regarding toll collection on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway, due to the incomplete and synchronous toll collection infrastructure, in some branches, the operating unit will apply a method of processing toll collection data by issuing deduction orders later.

The system will record the vehicle's entry point on this expressway and will temporarily not deduct the fee immediately. After the vehicle completes its journey, if within approximately 3 hours the system does not record the vehicle exiting the expressway at the existing toll stations, the data will be cross-checked and the default exit point will be determined as the Long Thanh interchange onto the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway to calculate the fare and deduct the corresponding fee based on the distance the vehicle has traveled.

At Km18 and Km16, the operating unit has installed and will install vehicle tracking devices on the gantry of the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway to determine the entry point to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway. The system will then calculate tolls based on the actual distance traveled by vehicles on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway, corresponding to the interchange where the vehicle exits the expressway.
