According to the Cybersecurity Department, out of 17,679 reports of fraud cases submitted by users to the unit from October 14 to November 10, 856 cases were reported via the website canhbao.khonggianmang.vn and 16,823 cases were reported via the hotline 156/5656.

By the end of September, the National Cybersecurity Monitoring Center (NCSC) under the Information Security Department recorded 125,338 fake websites impersonating agencies and organizations. Of these, the largest proportion were fake websites of banks, financial institutions, e-commerce platforms, and government agencies.
According to the Q3/2024 report on information security in Vietnam recently released by Viettel Cyber Security, the number of fake domain names nearly doubled during this period compared to the same period last year.
Experts believe that the sharp increase in the number of fraudulent domain names poses urgent brand protection issues for companies, organizations, and businesses in Vietnam.
In particular, finance and banking remain the top target of attack groups, accounting for 58% of all attacks, focusing mainly on scams related to credit card services, online loans, etc.
With rates of 17% and 13% respectively, retail, e-commerce, and public services were also the two sectors most affected by phishing and impersonation attacks in the third quarter.
The primary goal of hackers when attacking the retail and e-commerce sectors is to exploit the brands of large organizations to commit fraud through commission-based missions.
Phishing and impersonation attacks targeting public services have been causing significant losses to victims, with the amount of money stolen in each scam reaching hundreds of millions or even billions of dong.
In addition, the Viettel Threat Intelligence system also recorded phishing and impersonation attacks related to other important industries and sectors in Vietnam such as telecommunications, securities, and energy.
As can be seen, online fraud remains a serious problem in cyberspace in Vietnam and around the world , and security experts agree that the 'battle' to combat this problem faces many challenges.
According to experts, in addition to a series of solutions being vigorously implemented by the Ministry of Information and Communications and other ministries and agencies, in the coming time, the enforcement of regulations on authentication, filtering, and protection of social media users... in Government Decree 147 dated November 9, 2024, will contribute to minimizing negative behaviors, including schemes that exploit cyberspace to defraud and seize people's assets.
For users, NCSC experts note: Using sophisticated tactics, online scammers employ various psychological manipulation methods to build trust and lead victims to follow their scripts.
Therefore, every citizen needs to acquire the knowledge and skills to prevent online fraud in order to protect themselves in cyberspace.
