In Vietnam, although not yet truly vibrant, for many years now, football and volleyball fans have gradually become familiar with the appearance of fan clubs, especially fan clubs of big clubs such as Hanoi FC, Hai Phong, Nam Dinh, The Cong Viettel , Hoang Anh Gia Lai (men's football) or Hoa Chat Duc Giang, VTV Binh Dien Long An (women's volleyball)...
Currently, the presence of fan clubs mainly contributes to creating a more organized and vibrant atmosphere in the stands, thereby boosting the morale of the athletes, especially in home games. However, unlike the fan club model of many famous clubs around the world , fan clubs in Vietnam have not generated much financial value for the team through ticket sales, merchandise businesses, or organizing experiential activities. The main reason is that the fan clubs are still small in scale, the number of fans who can afford to attend matches in person or participate in sideline activities is limited; and even fewer are willing to follow the team on away trips.
Furthermore, based on the actual activities of some fan clubs, many people believe that the goal of establishing these groups is sometimes more focused on promoting sponsoring businesses than on the sustainable development of the club.
Nevertheless, the existence of fan clubs remains essential for professional sports and is highly commendable. For fan clubs to operate effectively and provide more tangible value to the club, close cooperation is needed between club owners/managers and those in charge of the fan clubs. The "big promises, little results" or "short-lived success" phenomenon can only be eliminated when the establishment of fan clubs aligns with the goals of sports development and financial efficiency, with long-term and serious collaboration from all parties involved.
