Vietnamese sports recognize that this ASIAD presents many advantages and opportunities, but also numerous difficulties and challenges. Some sports and events in which Vietnam excels are not included in the Games' program, unlike previous ASIADs. Nevertheless, Vietnamese sports are doing everything possible to approach this ASIAD with the greatest spirit and aspiration.

According to Mr. Dang Ha Viet, in 2023, the main task of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation is to prepare the team to participate in international sports events, with participation in ASIAD 19 being one of the important tasks identified, which is significant in elevating the level of Vietnamese sports.

Immediately after the conclusion of the 32nd SEA Games held in Cambodia, the sports sector conducted a review and assessment, continuing to maintain the force of athletes, coaches, and training experts at the National Sports Training Centers. Simultaneously, they selected and categorized sports groups to focus investment on and sent outstanding athletes for overseas training and competition in domestic and international tournaments to improve their professional skills, accumulate experience, and build their competitive mindset before the major sporting event.

In addition to professional preparation, care, rehabilitation, injury treatment, nutrition, and many other side activities have created an atmosphere of enthusiasm in training and competition, and reduced the pressure to achieve results for national sports teams.

Sports such as sepak takraw, karate, shooting, boxing, and chess are considered key disciplines with the potential to win gold medals.

Group 2 includes sports with the potential to win silver or bronze medals such as: rowing, wushu, kurash, athletics, archery, canoeing, swimming, taekwondo, chess, cycling, gymnastics, weightlifting, table tennis, roller skating, wrestling, judo, jujitsu, fencing.

Group 3 includes sports with no chance of winning medals, such as: football, women's volleyball, badminton, tennis, and golf.

The Vietnamese sports delegation participating in the 19th Asian Games (ASIAD 19) consists of 504 members, including 337 athletes, 90 coaches, and 11 experts, competing in 31 out of 40 sports and 202 out of 483 events of the Games. The delegation aims to win 2 to 5 gold medals and also sets a goal of having many athletes qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games.
