Located about 160km from Hanoi , Mai Chau town is home to five ethnic groups, with the Muong and Thai people making up the majority. Mai Chau lies within a large basin, surrounded by high mountains like a fortress. The climate here is always cooler in summer and warmer in winter. The villages with their simple stilt houses, the vast green rice fields, and the winding roads create a picturesque and romantic highland town.
For several decades now, the ethnic minority communities in Mai Chau have been developing ecotourism and resort-style tourism to serve both domestic and international tourists. Almost every family in Mai Chau leverages the strengths of their spacious, airy traditional stilt houses to offer homestay services. Besides the majestic mountain scenery, fresh and cool climate, and many unique local dishes, the most attractive tourist "specialty" that draws visitors to Mai Chau is the charming stilt houses nestled in the misty mountain air each morning or evening.
