On the morning of June 9th, the leaders of Tien Tien commune People's Committee announced that at approximately 4:30 PM on June 8th, Mr. N. was unfortunately struck by lightning and did not survive.

At that time, Mr. N. and his wife, Mrs. TTG, were rolling up plastic sheeting to fence off their rice fields in the Dong Gia area, Cap Thuong 2 village. It was raining quite heavily, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

When struck by lightning, Mrs. G. quickly shouted for help from neighbors to take her husband to the hospital, but Mr. N. did not survive.

Mr. and Mrs. N. are farmers and have three children: their eldest daughter is married, one son is serving in the army, and the other son is working abroad.

Since the beginning of the rainy season, many cases of people being struck by lightning and dying have occurred across the country.

The Hai Duong Provincial Meteorological and Hydrological Station warns that on June 9th and 10th, the Hai Duong area will continue to experience moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Residents should closely monitor weather forecasts and minimize going outside during thunderstorms with lightning.

Statistics from the Institute of Geophysics show that Vietnam experiences up to 2 million lightning strikes annually, with Hanoi, Hai Duong, Quang Nam , and the Mekong Delta provinces being particularly affected.

During heavy rain and thunderstorms, people need to seek safe shelter, staying away from rivers, aquaculture areas, rice fields, and vegetable gardens to protect themselves from lightning strikes.

In case you are outdoors in the rain with lightning and cannot get to a safe place in time, everyone should avoid standing in large groups close together, avoid standing on high ground, under trees, or in open fields, do not go into the water, and do not handle metal objects such as hoes or shovels.
