Casemiro could have continued his association with MU. |
This weekend's match against Nottingham Forest will be Casemiro's last appearance at the "Theatre of Dreams". Prior to that, the 34-year-old star sent thank-you gifts to many staff members at the Carrington training ground.
According to British media, Casemiro feels that Carrick helped him regain his best form thanks to his effective fitness management methods. Earlier this month, the former Real Madrid star played the full 90 minutes in four consecutive matches for the first time this season.
Notably, the draw against Sunderland on May 9th was also Casemiro's first injury of the season. This further strengthens his belief that he is capable of contributing at a high level for at least another year.
Carrick was appointed interim manager on January 13th and quickly made his mark. Under the former English midfielder, Casemiro started 14 out of 15 matches and scored 5 of the 9 goals this season. The Brazilian midfielder's resurgence contributed to Manchester United's return to the Champions League.
Casemiro also expressed his support for Carrick in the race to become Manchester United's permanent head coach: "The team is playing very well and improving with each game. In my opinion, he deserves this opportunity. He used to be a midfielder, so he understands me very well. When a midfielder talks to another midfielder, things are much easier."
Even though his journey at Old Trafford is nearing its end, Casemiro still seems to have regrets. In his eyes, Carrick's earlier arrival could have completely changed his future at MU.
