A glimpse of Ta Dung

In the heart of the Central Highlands, there is a place where the lake and the sky are reflected, where the sunrise lifts the mist to awaken a wondrous, unspoiled beauty – that is Ta Dung Tourist Area (Lam Dong).

Ta Dung - captivating the hearts of travelers.

This isn't my first time in Ta Dung. But strangely, each time I return, this place gives me new feelings, as if nature always knows how to change its attire, showcasing a different beauty through each season, each morning. The winding road leading down to the lake remains the same, soft as a silk ribbon embracing the mountain slope, but each time I pass by, I feel calmer and more peaceful.

Late in the afternoon, Ta Dung welcomed me with rays of sunlight streaming across the lake. Amidst the vast expanse of water, small islands bobbed like schools of fish swimming in a watercolor painting. The characteristic chill of the highlands made me slightly tighten my coat, but my heart felt unusually warm. As night fell, under a star-filled sky, the wind rustled through the thatched roof, insects chirped, and a campfire lit to welcome tourists singing and dancing blended into a gentle symphony of the mountains and forests.

Ta Dung Lake - a glimpse of the sunset as beautiful as a painting.

Upon arriving at Ta Dung, if you wake up early, you'll see a thick, white mist enveloping the path, so close you feel you could almost touch it. From the lake's edge, the mist begins to move, thin layers swirling around the mountain slopes before slowly dissipating with the first rays of sunlight. The entire landscape seems to awaken from a long sleep. The sunlight gildes the water's surface, reflecting off the lush green islands floating in the lake, creating a scene that is both mystical and tranquil.

A group of young people from the city also woke up early to paddle out to the middle of the lake. One girl shared: "I've heard Ta Dung compared to the 'Ha Long Bay of the Central Highlands,' but only when standing here, looking at the clouds and mountains reflected in the sky, do I understand why." That feeling isn't unique to anyone. In Ta Dung, every moment, every perspective reveals a different beauty, making it hard to leave.

The potential of a "green gem" amidst the vast forest.

Ta Dung tourist area, located in Ta Dung commune at an altitude of approximately 850 meters, enjoys a cool and fresh climate year-round. Ta Dung Lake was formed by the Dong Nai 3 hydroelectric project, creating a vast body of water covering over 3,600 hectares with dozens of large and small islands, stretching like jewels in the heart of the Central Highlands.

Not only beautiful for its scenery, Ta Dung is also a land rich in potential for developing ecotourism and resort tourism. Surrounding the lake is a primeval forest with rich flora and fauna, located within the UNESCO Dak Nong Global Geopark, which preserves many unique geological, biological, and cultural values.

In recent years, the number of tourists visiting Ta Dung has increased significantly. They come to watch the sunrise over the lake, to listen to the stories of the local people, and to breathe in the scent of plants and trees in the early morning mist. Tourism services here are developing in a direction that is close to nature, mainly focusing on small accommodation models that blend into the landscape and preserve its pristine beauty. The local government aims to develop Ta Dung into a key ecotourism area associated with forest conservation, landscape protection, and the promotion of the cultural identity of the M'nong and Ma ethnic groups.

Before leaving Ta Dung, I visited a small house surrounded by lush green coffee plantations. Mr. Y Thoan, who has lived here for more than half his life, poured a cup of hot tea, looked out at the lake, and slowly said, "Now that there are many tourists, the locals are very happy. But we only hope that in the future, if there are big investors, they will preserve the soul of Ta Dung, not destroy the mountains, not fill in the lake, not lose this pristine beauty. Losing it would mean losing the soul of this land."

His words resonated like a quiet note amidst the evening breeze. Ta Dung is not only a scenic spot, but also a place that preserves the pristine beauty of the Central Highlands mountains and forests, a beauty that needs to be cherished and developed with respect and harmony with nature.

Farewell to Ta Dung as the evening mist descends. The lake's surface shimmers, reflecting the last rays of sunlight. Small islands in the distance seem to drift in a sea of clouds, ethereal yet captivating. A fleeting glimpse of Ta Dung, that alone is enough to leave a traveler with a lasting memory...
