According to Android Authority , many users have reported that when opening the Amazon Shopping app on Motorola phones, instead of launching directly, some devices briefly open a browser window and redirect to a tracking link before reaching the Amazon page. Notably, this behavior occurs even on high-end models like the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra.

Even high-end phones like the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra weren't spared.

The issue has attracted the attention of the user community. Researchers investigated and discovered that the Smart Feed app pre-installed on Motorola devices appears to be blocking app launches and redirecting users through affiliate marketing links. These links contain tracking code, potentially generating commissions from purchases. Network analysis also revealed behavior related to the domains of Motorola's advertising partners and content recommendations.
This discovery came as a surprise to users, especially since they didn't expect that launching a shopping app would require going through a browser. Furthermore, the fact that this happened on high-end devices added to the surprise.
Motorola's response
In a statement, Motorola described this as unintentional behavior and said it was caused by a routing configuration issue in the Smart Feed app. Motorola asserted that the configuration has been corrected and the app will now open normally without going through the tracking links.
Online fashion shopping is gaining popularity in the UK.
The company also emphasized that it "values user experience, privacy, and platform integrity," and committed to "continuing to closely monitor the system to ensure it operates as expected across all devices."
However, Motorola has yet to clearly explain how the affiliate marketing behavior appears in the software in the first place. For those still concerned, the Smart Feed feature can be disabled through the app settings on the phone.
To disable this feature, users can open Settings > Apps (or Apps & Notifications ) > See all apps , find Smart Feed, and tap Disable.
This incident also serves as a reminder that pre-installed software can sometimes perform many hidden operations without the user's knowledge.
