Mount still wants to stay and prove his worth. |
British media reports reveal that the 27-year-old midfielder has no intention of leaving Manchester United despite a difficult season under manager Michael Carrick. Mount still believes he can play an important role in the team's plans for next season.
The former Chelsea star made his first start under Carrick in the 0-0 draw against Sunderland on May 9th. This was only the third time this season Mount has played a full 90 minutes, highlighting the periods of interruption due to injury and inconsistent form.
Nevertheless, Mount is determined to revive his career at Old Trafford. His contract runs until 2028 and his salary will increase to £250,000 per week after MU qualify for the Champions League. This makes Mount one of the highest-paid players in the team.
With Casemiro and Jadon Sancho leaving the club, and Marcus Rashford also facing the risk of being sold, Manchester United are planning to add at least two new midfielders. The Old Trafford club could even sign another player if Manuel Ugarte departs.
Amidst a wave of squad overhauls, Mount is seen as a direct competitor to Bruno Fernandes and also provides additional options for the midfield. He has also been used on the right wing, although his preferred position remains in the center.
Since joining MU from Chelsea for £60 million in the summer of 2023 and receiving the number 7 shirt, Mount has failed to live up to expectations due to persistent fitness issues. This season, he has missed 9 games due to injury.
